belly aches

My daughter is 6 and has had tummy pains for as long as I can remember. She has been on prevacid for a few years now. Her stools are rarely an issue. We see a gastro from time to time and got a call recently that she has to go for a gastrointestinal cleaning (sounds like fun doesn't it?) <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-disgusted.gif" border="0">. They want to make sure that there is not a mucus build-up in the intestines, much like in the lungs.
I wish I had the answer to this because it can be frustrating.
It is great to have a forum like this to exchange ideas and know that we are not alone.

My son 9 has had bouts of stomach aches, after he eats, usually relieved with a poop. I believe this has to do with mucus in the intestines and food particles stayin in there or getting through it slowly, they need to come up with a way to reduce this mucus like pulmozyme does in the lungs, don't think mirilax really does the job

We had such intestinal issues after my son was diagnosed at age 3. This is my experience and something to consider:
Upping the enzymes did not solve the tummy aches and loose stool, so I insisted the doctors perform a lactose intolerance test (hydrogen breath test). The test showed he was NOT lactose intolerant BUT that he had overgrown bacteria in the bowl. He needed to take an oral antibiotic (Flagyl) for a week to kill the bad bacteria in his bowl, but he also took a probiotic (Culterelle) to keep the good bacteria in there. He used the Culturelle daily for several months and I eventually just stopped giving it to him.

So it turns out it my case, the enzymes weren't the issue. We just needed to fix the bacteria levels in his bowel. You could try giving 1-2 capsules of a probiotic daily. It's sold over the counter and actually good for you. Of course, if your problem is the same is my son's, you might also need to get the prescribed antibiotic.

I would recommend you research the possibility of bacterial overgrowth of the bowel. It was such a frustration for me and such a relief to figure out. And it took a long time to sort this issue out.

My daughter has belly aches within 30 minutes of eating. She is not on enzymes as of now. She had a fecal fat test last year and it showed some fat in her stools. She has frequent loose stools with a film of oil on the surface of the water. She also takes Prevacid 15 mg. When I first told the doctor about the stomach aches, he said to give her one tablespoon of Mylanta right before she eats. We tried that for one month...no good. Then he upped her Prevacid to 2 x's a day. That seemed to ease it a bit but not by much and not for long.
I hope you find the problem soon and get the "fix" for it..I understand the frustrastions.

Debbie - I sent you a private message as well.

Your story of oil and loose stools, yet your daughter is not on enzymes, alarms me. The oil floating in the toilet and the frequency and looseness of the stools, the constant tummy aches, etc. is how Katy was diagnosed.

Please please your daughter should be on enzymes!

Sorry for the sense of urgency and I hope I'm not being too pushy.
