I saw this one at the store recently:
Vicks Germ-Free Warm Mist Humidifier Model V790. It is a steam humidifier that cleans the water in 2 ways before dispensing the steam into the air; with a UV light and by boiling it. I won't use any of the cool-mist ones due to concerns over bacteria growth.

We had to just start using one cuz our noses were all getting sores and it was way too dry in our trailer. I hope this isn't really that huge a concern. I will have to talk to my docs. Darn...we were just at the clinic the other day! We notice a huge difference when it is not running now. Our noses get stuffed and sore. What would you use in place of a humidifier. This one is warm mist. We have that Vicks one ,that hmw was talking about, in our daughters room also. Have a larger one in the living room, it is different but still warm mist.

We sometimes also put a pot of water on the stove, bring it to a boil and then cut the heat back until it's just hot enough to steam. No worry about it growing germs and it seems to help put some moisture into the air of our kitchen and living room. I do agree that the air being too dry can make symptoms worse for any of us this time of year and finding a safe way to remedy the situation can make a big difference.

Another common product as an alternative to using humidifiers when sick, the 'waterless vaporizers' (i.e. the Vicks plug-ins) are often not recommended for people w/ CF because the ingredients in them can be irritating to their respiratory tract and trying to suppress coughing in someone w/ CF is not a good idea. So it would be good to check with the dr. before using anything like that.

What I've found helpful for me is a nasal saline rinse - it works great for relieving congestion & adding some moisture to the sinus area (I bought a kit at a pharmacy). I plan to use it on Max when he's old enough. There are also saline gels/sprays for young children, but I've never used them on Max.
