Sonata is the only sleeping medication I have found so far to work for me. I have taken Lunesta and Ambien in the past and neither one seem to help at all!

The thing I like about Sonata is that you can take it again if you happen to awaken during the night, where most you can only take every 8 hours or so....

I've tried numerous ones!! I'll give you the run down and the pros and cons of each one, ready?

Ambien: Hated it. I hallucinated and was hungover the next day. I did sleep good but it wasn't worth it.

Lunesta: Again I slept great on this, but was one of the lucky 15% of people that got a horrible chemical taste in my mouth from it. I loved it besides that though.

Rozerem: Fabulous med!!! Its not a controlled substance so addiction and tolerance are not likely. They way my sleep specialist explained it is that it stimulates your brain to produce melatonin. Side effects are pretty rare with this. I stopped taking it because I had the most horrible arthritis flair up about a month ago, I looked up the side effects for rozerem and one of them is joint pain. There is no way to know for sure that the rozerem contibuted to the flair up but me and the doc decided it wasn't worth risking another one. I was in some serious pain.

Amitryptiline: I was on a pretty small dose of this and slept good, but it made me constantly dizzy. Not enough to make me nauseated or anything, but it was pretty annoying.

Nortriptyline: This is what I'm on now. I just started it this week as a matter of fact. So far so good. I start to get sleepy about half an hour to 45 minutes after I take it. I sleep through the night. And so far I have had no side effects to report. It is also used to treat chronic pain so I am hoping it helps with my arthritis.
