Jeana, How old was Chris when you adopted him? I feel your plan is not possible...even for someone without cf. If I understand you correctly you are plannng on going back to work after two weeks? I've never heard of someone going back to work 2 weeks after giving birth. You're a school teacher right? Don't they give you 6 wks? WTF? I don't think your OB would approve of this nor DCHS. The more I write I think I must have misunderstood what you wrote. Please clarify.

how long after I have the baby before my FEV1 goes back up to baseline? </end quote></div>

The consensus among cf doctors is that what ever FEV1 the mother has achieved 1 year post delivery is her new baseline FEV1.

I hope this helps.

You have so much on your plate right now!
I lost a great deal of lung function with both pregnancies. With my first I started out around 85% and slowly dropped into the 60's. Right after my daughter was born and I was running around and trying to spend as much time as possible with her while she was in the NICU I dropped into the 50's. Over time my PFT's returned to where they were pre pregnancy. I was able to breastfeed for a year but I had to make an extra effort to make sure I was taking in enough calories.
When we decided to try for another baby my PFT's were 87%.
Same as the first time around my PFT's slowly dropped into the 50's. My daughter is now 9 months old and my PFT's have been all over the place. I will dip into the 50 -60 range, take antibiotics and they will get back up into the 70's -low 80's. I did my first course of IV's in 19 years back in October and after that I was back up to 88%. Right now I am fighting something again. I am taking Tobi and Cipro. Will have PFT's on Monday but I know I am no where near 80% probably not even in the 70's and it sucks! I am still breastfeeding but also supplementing with formula for a few bottles a day. Supplementing with formula has certainly helped me feel less strained.
Adding a second baby has been really hard on me. She is a very easy going and happy baby but an AWFUL sleeper! I have not had a full nights sleep since before she was born. There is no down time during the day to catch up on sleep. When I do get a good amount of sleep I feel so much better. If only Hannah would work with me on the sleep! Add to that the fact that my husband is awful at night. He is very willing to help during the night but by the time I wake him and he gets his act up and moving I could have already tended to Hannah and been back to sleep! Grrr.
Good luck to you. I know how hard it is to struggle with this. (((HUGS))))

I hear ya Anne...what's with the babies that don't sleep?!?!? Gavin is still up at least once a night to eat and he fusses around in his crib off and on. I thought that having the second baby wouldn't be that hard, but it has been.
