Bloated stomach issues :(

Hi,

know it's been a while since I've posted on here...

Anyway... a bit about myself for people who don't know me on here...I'm 29, have c.f, was diagnosed at 2 1/2 years of age, am pancreatic insufficient and my lung function is 50 - 55% FEV1 predicted.

Also a few years back (2007)suffered bowel blockages 5 time in that year. The following year I was diagnosed with IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome)also

So recently I've started myself on this gluten free diet for the past 2 months and am having some good results with feeling better in the gut area, eg. not as much pain.

But one thing still remains...the excessive bloating I have every time I eat anything!

It's so frustrating as I really do look prego! Anyway when I first get up in the morning my stomach looks not not so bloated but after I've got myself something to eat like for example: rices with a chopped banana and low fat milk it goes so bloated and feel heavy

So I'll get to the reason I'm posting on here...

My question to others with perhaps the same problem or have c.f pancreatic insufficient problems are:

Are there anything tricks, tips, for example - (special diets, certain healthy foods, supplements, etc) that you have found helpful to stop the bloating stomach?

I would appreciate your feedback on this. I'm all ears

Thanks in advance,

Sarah

I've found that the times I get bloated like that they have me take miralax for a couple of days and it helps. Now I take it once a day just to keep everything moving and comfortable.

1) For those who take miralax, when you poo regularly are they soft? I feel like my poo is already really soft so I dont want it to be diarrhea like, b/c its so soft (even though miralax isnt a laxative just a softener)... I havent ever really taken it daily, just when I feel crampy or a little backed up... but I wonder if I should take it daily b/c i get some bloating issues as well (though mainly when on Megace)

2) I read somewhere that someone who was always bloated had gastroparesis, the slow emptying... It was said when they put my g-tube in, that that might be a problem for me (never officially had the test, just had like my entire dinner from 15 hours before still in my stomach when he went to do the g-tube haha)

Could that be part of the issue Shiner?

(So I decided to leave that I wrote "Shiner" instead of just "Shine" for some reason when replying I was thinking that was it... sorry if its offending, but I kinda think its funny lol)

You may be lactose intolorant. Try using lactose free milk for a while, and no ice cream or other dairy products. See if that helps.

You may also have a bacterial overgrowth in ur gut.

Hey Shine,
The boys and I have been gluten free for about a year and a half now. It takes quite some time to get all the gluten out of your system...give it a little time (up to 6 months) and the bloating may just go away. I did find that after getting the gluten out of our systems....it was a lot more evident that there were other foods the boys and I could not handle.
We would experiment with different things. I would stop cow cheese for a while and notice they didn't complain about tummy aches and their poops would get better, then I would return it into their diet and the symptoms came back. We started using raw cheese and they do fine with that. We ended up taking out all soy products and dairy milk.

check out my website for my post of going GF and for some yummy GF recipes

Thanks for all your replies they have been helpful

mag6125: I forgot to mention that I take movicol every 2 -3 days which softens stools and is a gentle laxative.

theLostMiler: I don't think I'm slow to stomach emptying as I always feel have an a good appetite. And nah you weren't offending at all...it was funny to read! lol

Printer: I'm definitely not lactose intolerant

ehtansky21: I will definitely check out your blog! It sounds great! Always looking for new gluten free recipes!
One thing though, you mentioned that you took out milk and soy products. So just wondered what you took in placed of the milk/cheese to keep your calcium levels up?
I would be reluctant to go off all dairy as I my levels are just below the normal line for vitamin D
