mag6125: I forgot to mention that I take movicol every 2 -3 days which softens stools and is a gentle laxative.

theLostMiler: I don't think I'm slow to stomach emptying as I always feel have an a good appetite. And nah you weren't offending at all...it was funny to read! lol

ehtansky21: I will definitely check out your blog! It sounds great! Always looking for new gluten free recipes!
One thing though, you mentioned that you took out milk and soy products. So just wondered what you took in placed of the milk/cheese to keep your calcium levels up?
I would be reluctant to go off all dairy as I my levels are just below the normal line for vitamin D

Oh good question Shine!!!!

I am going to be doing a post soon on that soon....the essence of the post, is that dairy milk is actually not really a great source of calcium...the body can't break it down enough to really use it...there are many better ways to get calcium iN!!! That is all the info I have for now...will get to it soon though

For the boys, who need to gain weight, I replace full fat coconut milk for almost everything that calls for milk..for hubby and I that DO NOT need to gain weight, I use half full fat milk and half rice milk. I do not believe those are sources of calcium though....

blessings,
missa

I've posted a similar topic before. I definately have this issue. After eating it takes a long time for my stomach to go down. It seems to be the best in the morning. My doctor had suggested the gastric emptying test because he said a lot of CFers have a sluggish digestive system. I agree that you can try to increase your enzymes. I take 13 Creon 24 with each meal too. I've always had bad gastric problems.

The nutritionist at the clinic told me to try two things. Keep a food journal and see if certain foods seem to give you the same reaction, such as dairy, carbs, etc. She also suggested eating 6 smaller meals throughout the day to avoid eating a lot at a time which can cause excess bloat.

I hope some of this helps! But trust me, you're not alone. One of the most frequent questions I get weekly is "awww is it a boy or a girl?" or the more popular "oh my goodness when are you due?" lol It is DEF not a good feeling!!

Yes its prob the milk. Use to have the same problem and then I cut dairy from my diet and I am a lot less bloated! Its a horrible feeling. Try rice milk and soy cheese. I will never go back to milk again. Plus if you do some research on milk, its not good at all. It makes sinus problems worse and mucus more think in our bodies. Its way too hard to digest too.

Kmhbeauty:

Will give these foods a go
I did read somewhere that milk in general is a hard food to digest because of the sugar content in it and our system finds it hard to break down in our digestive tract even for people without c.f! Not sure where I read this though :/

Kristen:

I have been told by my dietitian to eat 6 small meals a day too...but sometimes it's not always that easy...I've gone off bread completely b/c all my life it has made me feel really bloated and weighty in my bowels and given me pain
Now that I have eliminated that particular food out of my diet...I am feeling much better for it! But your right...I should start a food diary. That is a good idea! Thanks!
Just curious, what's involved in the Gastric test? I've never had one done before...
Also, I know right?! People are so insensitive! Just tell me to bugger off! lol

ehtansky21: I look forward to your post! Sounds interesting!

my husband has had this same issue (even had to buy bigger pants once cause he was always so bloated)
He has tried to do smaller meals and watch the fried food and try to cut out preservatives as much as possible (seems body has harder time breaking it down) has gotten better but still issue we always have to work on.

A gastric emptying test is when they give you either a little egg injected with radioactive dye or the CT scan dye to drink and they trace it along your digestive tract to see if things are sluggish. If they are, that could be the issue that is causing you the the distention.
