Blood in stools

My husband noticed blood in his stools this morning--not the dark-tarry-internal-bleeding type, but bright red blood type. He had a bunch of CF related appointments today anyway, so we called the nurse first thing this morning. When he got there for his blood draw they told him to go to the ER. So, he is there now. The weird thing is that he is feeling pretty good. His docs put him on tobra IV last week and that seems to be helping a lot--though his kidney functions are elevated, so they are adjusting dosage and watching that closely.

Any ideas as to what this is? Anyone have this happen?

Also of interest, Beauty had the same thing yesterday. We called the vet and we had to give her chicken and rice for dinner and we might hold off on this next round of chemo--waiting to hear back from the vet on that one. The on-call vet last night said not to worry yet, it is not entirely uncommon in dogs for this to happen. Is this a ironic coincidence or do you think that they have the same thing? Beauty too has been acting like she feels fine, except for diarehha for 2 days.

The timing of this really sucks--we are scheduled to leave for vacation a week from today!

the ER doc said it is probably an internal hemoroid and sent him on his way. Now we are sitting in the liver doc's office waiting for another appointment.

My dog does that all the time. It's horrible to clean up. Luckily we have tile and hardwood floors but for some reason she heads for the rug. We withhold her food but she doesn't like chicken and rice so usually she just won't eat and it goes away on it's own.
My husband does that too but I think that's just due to his age (48 & no CF).

Good luck! I know what you're going thru!!

Hi Lisa,

I had bleeding in my stools a few years back. After a colonoscopy it was found that I just had internal hemorrhoids. I guess it's common in CF because of our horrible BM problems <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Hopefully that's all it is!
