Blood sugar question

When I was diagnosed with CFRD it happened just after my transplant. I naively hoped it was just steroid related and thought I would get off the injections. When I realised this probably wouldn't happen I was pretty annoyed to be honest - I have a huge sweet tooth!!!

BUT detoxing off sugar actually wasn't that difficult. I switched from Coke to Diet Coke (a drink which used to taste like toilet cleaner to me) and just stopped munching on sweets. I now eat chocolate bars and things like that but it's all very controlled. Yes it would be a bummer, but it's not as hard as you'd imagine.

Anyway hope that your sugars are ok next time

Definitely see what your fasting shows before you start worrying. Up to 150 is considered normal after meals. Numbers that are consistently higher than 150 are a cause for concern.

I agree about the artificial sweeteners. I was having severe joint pain that my docs, including my rheumotologist couldn't find the reason for. I started going to an accupuncturist who suggested I stop using ALL artificial sweeteners. Within a month I was able to stop all pain meds, and I haven't had joint pain since. I agree that not all people will have some type of side effect from artificial sweeteners, but I can't agree that they are good for you.

Since I am diabetic, I just supplement with more insulin if I eat or drink something with sugar in it. I've found that eating a low concentrated sweet diet is best for me.

I just drink regular coke. It's the one thing I will not relinquish. If you have it with meals and don't drink 20 cans a day, its usually fine.

As far as your numbers go, I don't think 150 is anything to worry about, especially after a sweet tea. I think that'd put most of us here over 200 or 300. Just watch out for the signs of high and low blood sugar, and try to cut back a bit if you can, just to reduce the strain on your pancreas if it looks like you might be leaning that way.

Hi Faust,and anyone interested:

I just wanted to say that 27 years diabetic and CF I never once thought that I couldn't do it. I looked it as a sport and I was going to be the VIP.

I was really pissed off at first and I remember praying to God and asking why he had burdened me with so much. I remember swearing a lot and refusing to get any education on it. But I was young and immature. When I finally came to my senses and a kind compassionate nurse finally got real with me and told me I was feeling sorry for myself and that was not going to get me anywhere. I totally got that. I don't know any moment in my life where I ever felt sorry for myself and I wasn't going to start now. I booked myself a flight to New York right out of the hospital and decided I was going to face this monster on my own in the middle of New York, Manhattan, a place I never had been before. Just like me. Love a challenge. I had a conversation with God eventually that if he could carry that big old, heavy cross for me , I could carry at least this for him. I knew it wasn't going to be easy but my body had been good to me so \far and figured I would at least give it a try!
Diabetes bites but it is very manageable and anyone who can battle 'CF can take care of their diabetes too. Now Im showing them how it is done.

I have no side effects from diabetes and have lived a very happy , unhealthy life. hee hee.
No for real though, Diabetes in work, and requires, endorine and diabetes nurse pracitioners, and nutritionists all quality people on my team. As a team we can overcome.

I don't mean to make it sound rosy cause it isn't but The body is an amazing machine and if we can abuse it we can also master it and make it the best it can be.
