BLOOD SUGAR

Glucose Tolerance Tests need to be done once a year.

says www.cff.org "As people with cystic fibrosis get older, their risk of getting diabetes increases. With CF, scarring often occurs in the pancreas, which produces insulin for the body. This scarring sometimes prevents insulin from getting into the blood and could lead to diabetes. CF Foundation-accredited care centers regularly check each patient for diabetes, usually once a year."

</a>

If her last one was about a year ago, get it done again just to be safe.

A lot can change with the pancreas in just a year.....

Sometimes that happens to Sean too but it's not a regular thing.

One note is that caffeine (in Coke) is a diuretic. Caffeine increases the blood flow in the kidneys and at the same time inhibits the reabsorption of sodium and water. Also caffeine has been known to weaken the detrusor muscles in the bladder, which provokes the need to urinate.

Hey Seana

I wanted to throw this out there - she may have had a temporary spike in blood sugar or something. Even though YES she needed to drink to stay hydrated and eat the foods you listed are high in carbs and sugars - both of which will raise your blood sugars.

Sodas - high carbs and sugars
Chips - carbs and sugars
Bananas - each banana is equal to about 30g of carbs - which is about double a normal fruit.
Apples - ANY fruit is going to be high in natural sugars and carbs and will raise sugars - they are good for you but still raise blood sugars
Breads - not bad but have carbs
Funnel Cake - CARBS and SUGAR - especially if you have powdered sugar on it.

Then when you add that to the water she drank - like Mel said it may be a combination of dehydration too. I just wanted to through that out there - she probably does NOT have an issue with her sugars if the constant urination is NOT an everyday thing but more like just this one day - but she probably took in way more sugary and high carb foods than she normally does in that amount of time. Just a thought.

For diabetes you would notice a more chronic problem - over days and weeks frequent urination and excessive thirst and so on - in NORMAL situation not just her being really thirsty after being out and in the sun ALL day. Or what have you.

If you are really concerned with it call the doc and see what they say before she goes to her dad's for the next few weeks. Otherwise I say just keep an eye on her and make her dad aware to keep an eye on things. Diabetes is something to keep an eye on - but I think if she had a problem you would be noticing it before now - it wouldn't have just COME ON immediately like that. That is just my OPINION though.

Yeah i was gonna say, it's probably just b/c she was drinking so much. I am similar at work: i keep a full bottle of water at my desk and i find that i drink more at work than at home, and I am constantly going to the bathroom at least twice and hour, simply b/c I am intaking more than usual. Plus, if it was warmer where you are and she was generally consuming more, that's probably why. Like mel said, it has to go somewhere!!
