My experience with insurance is He who yells loudest wins. Call then everyday and appeal over and over until you win. Look into getting medicaid as a secondary insurance and they usually will pay for what the insurance won't, if you can qualify.

We have Kaiser, and when we switched to Nutreen 2.0, they covered it a little easier, but I am not sure if there is an age restriction for it or not.

In the meantime, I would mix the scandishakes with half and half and use that until you can get the insurance to cover the other. But as always, check with your doc and nutritionist first.

It is pretty dumb of them to pay for everything else that you need, which is a good point to use that he needs this. I too would use the its cheaper than being in the hospital. I just used the you will save over $400,000. per year if we can get what we need to take care of our son at home or we can go to the hospital at least 4x's a year for 2 or 3 weeks at an aver costs of $126,500+ per hospitalization and I got an approval within 3 days.

Good Luck

my insurance doesn't cover forumula. Florida has Children's Medical Services, state program, and they will provide if you qualify. Check on that.

1,300 is way to much. you can order online for $50 for a case of 24. If you use 5 cans a night, thats about 6.25 cases or $312.50

You would be better off trying to get your pharmacy to order it for you though so you can save S&H

Another place you could try is the CF Pharmacy. They will ship it for free and they too are often much cheaper than other pharmacies as they specialize in meds and needs for CF patients and try to save them as much money as they can. They have a website and a toll free number, I usually get the number when I need it from the CF Foundations website. The Number I have is 1-800-541-4959, that could be the number for those of us in Colorado, but they should be able to help you or at least direct you to the correct number for your area.

I can't offer any advice about insurance, but wanted to say I'm glad Parker's surgery went well. It does take a few days to regulate, but he'll feel better soon.

Good luck with the BC/BS

Just a thought...

If the formula is called "medical food" on his records , they may cover it more than if its a supplement. Your doctor may be able to write a letter of necessity.
