Brilliant Doctors

I have been so busy I haven't had a chance to post this yet. Brian had a migrane of Wednesday and the clinic on base was all booked up. So he went into the ER to get a shot of toridol in the booty. Its the only thing that seems to really work for his migranes. Anyway, he gets his shot, and the doc gives him a perscription for vicodine....this was 1 week to the day after he made a suicide attempt by over dosing and he was at the same ER!!!!! Brian told me this and I just about went through the roof. I asked Brian if he had filled it and he said YES!!! Then I REALLY went nuts. The second I got home that night I took the pills and stashed them away from him. Brian really does regret what he did and I don't think he would have tried again, but there is always the risk of a set back. I could not belive they would do that!

Good call on stashing the meds. I hope Brian's able to get the help he needs to cope psychologically. I'm surprised they didn't keep him for 72-hours following a suicide attempt. I thought that was the law. *shrug*

{hugs} that's a lot for you to deal with. Let us know how we can be of support

I may not be up to par when it comes to ER things. But doesn't the hospital keep something on file for patients? Wouldn't he have a little medical history in the computer or something?
I wouldn't think that would be very difficult to cross reference to make sure you're not giving narcotics to someone who just tried to kill himself.

Way to go for being on top of things, Jessi! You may have just saved his life!

How insane!!! I would call the hospital and ask to speak with the Dr. that he saw. I know that he is human and humans make mistakes, but we can only learn from our mistakes if we are aware we made them. Tell him what he did and remind him that people lives depend on him and he should pay more attention next time because the next patient he screws up with might just sue him. That should keep him on his toes for a while. You are a good wife and deserve a pat on the back. Hang in there and this too shall pass. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Good job keeping on top of things--though you shouldn't have to!</end quote></div>

Why shouldn't she have to? Shouldn't the responsibility to care for another's well-being lie in the hands of family members? We can't pass the buck and expect an uninformed (but nonetheless medically capable) third party to be held responsible.

Granted, the situation stinks, but I think too many people are eager to thrust responsibility into the hands of others.</end quote></div>

What about those who dont have family to watch their backs? Does that fall onto the 3rd party then?
