Bronchiectasis

I have bronchiectasis, and was wondering how many of you have it. I was diagnosed at 32, and was thinking that if I had been diagnosed earlier, I wouldn't have developed bronchiectasis? I don't know.

Any thoughts on bronchiectasis or info?

Thanks.

I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis at the age of 13 and then subsequently I was diagnosed with CF, sometimes I wonder if I would have had bronchiectasis so young if I had been diagnosed with CF at an earlier age but it is difficult to know, CF is a progressive disease after all so maybe I would have had it anyway but to a lesser extent. I think most people with CF who have lung involvement also have bronchiectasis to some extent.

Andrew's x-rays have shown brochiectasis since he was 11. He is 13 now. However, he is not treated any differently because of the bronchiectasis. Don't all cf lungs eventually show bronchiectasis? I've always wondered about this.

I am looking for a study I found a couple years ago that stated what percentage of people with CF have bronchiectasis by 18 yrs of age. I think remember it being 90%, but I cannot find the darned study. I do believe it was based on high res CT scan, which detects much milder bronchiectasis than x-ray.
In the meantime, here is a very interesting study/collection of data that almost gives the answer to your question.
Notes for example, that by age 15-16 years, more than 60% of patients with CF acquire a P aeruginosa infection.
