C Diff and CF

Getting C. Diff is a lot like getting a yeast infection when you're on antibiotics. The antibiotics kill off bacteria in the body, and that includes certain types of "good" bacteria that help keep our intestines working properly. When all that good bacteria is out of balance, the "bad" bacteria can flourish. This includes C. Diff.

Some people are more prone to C. diff depending on their body's sensitivities to certain antibiotics. For me personally, I only get C. diff when I'm on a cocktail of 3 antibiotics. When I'm only on 2 of them, I get a yeast infection and oral thrush.

I'm sorry your little one is battling this. Her little tummy must be feeling quite yucky; I'm sure those diapers are no thrill for you either.

Hang in there.

I had CDiff once in my adult life . I probably had it when I was a baby too. But I don't remember. They check for it quite often because of absorption problems. It is definately linked to Antibiotic use. I use

Acidophilos and Lactibicilis supplement that helps a lot in replaceing the good bacteria in our GI Tract. There are baby doses . Perhaps you can ask about it. Those antibiotics can do a number on the GI tract. But there are ways of getting it under control. Perhaps you could research the probiotic on the internet and be ready with questions the next phone call with the doctor. It is always nice if we can be prepared with questions to ask.

Good Luck.

Just wondering if anyone out there knows if c-dif is more common in people with cf more than just because they are always on antibiotics. My daughter is 7 mo old and this is her first time getting c-dif, but she hasnt been on an antibiotic for two months? Would like any information you have on c-dif and cf.
