Camping

Hey everyone - I used to go camping a lot when I was younger (and had WAY better lung function). Back then, I would usually just skip my nebs altogether and bring along a little albuterol inhaler. I didn't even do airway clearance!! In retrospect, that was really REALLY dumb, but I was a dumb teenager, lol.

Anyway, I'm striving for 100% compliance these days and am wondering if it's even possible to camp and be 100% compliant. I'd really like to do the whole tent thing (as opposed to RV or cabin). I have a compressor that can run using the cigarette lighter in my car, so theoretically I could still do nebs. But I wouldn't be able to use my vest. Has anybody gone camping recently? Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks

Have someone that you go with do CPT on you or get a flutter (I don't think those work as well as the Vest, but a few days wouldn't kill you) and get an eFlow that runs on batteries to do your nebs.

Sterilize eFlow with alcohol.

Problem solved!

HI Wheezie:

We actually just got back from camping today. We only went for the weekend this time, but my 6 yr old with cf got all his normal breathing treatments, medications and tube feeding. It is harder, but not impossible. He had 2 albuterol treatments, 2 HS treatments, 2 pulmicort treatments and one pulmozyme treatment with the vest for 1 hour ( 3 20 minute sessions) daily. He then had his adeks, vit E, lactulose, miralax, prevacid, enzymes, vit c, zithromax, and then his 9 hour per night tube feeding. We do go in an old camper (1977) we don't have running water, or bathroom but do have electric, which is essential. I have saved old masks for treatments (that were going to get thrown away), that have been sterilized for camping and don't wash and sterilze until we get home, so there is no worrying about keeping them clean. Luckily it wasn't hot this weekend, because with no air, it does make it hard on our little guy. Good luck and happy camping!!

you could do your nebs in the car as you said and then do exercise with periods of huffing and coughing.

Could you rent a generator so that you could use your vest?
