Can exercise really make this much of a difference??

The past few mornings my fasting blood sugar has been 92. This morning I started to worry that maybe my numbers are creeping up. That caused me to start stressing and thinking I am just going to ask my OB for meds so I can eat whatever the heck I want. I feel like I have to eat the same safe things all of the time. Anyway, for lunch I had 1/2 of a grilled cheese sandwhich and a bowl of tomato soup. After one hour my blood sugar was 170 and that really upset me. I did not eat my normal "safe" lunch and look what happens. I have not been walking for about the last week so I took my butt to the treadmill and walked for 30 minutes. I tested once I was done walking so 1.5 hours after eating and it was 93! Tonight I tested one hour after dinner and my blood sugar was 117 where it has been running 135-140. Will exercise really help my numbers this much?
I was really good about walking for a few weeks after getting the GD dx but the last week or so I have been using DD naptime for my naptime rather than walking and then resting time.

I guess it makes sense since exercise burns glucose. Interesting! I wasn't able to exercise so I don't know how it would have impacted my numbers.

Hi Anne,

I'm with you, I would ask if you can go on a med so that you can eat whatever you want. I would totally get sick of the same foods over and over (because I know I'd want to play it safe too). My diabetic friend at work eats whatever she wants and just takes her insulin. That's how I think it should be for us with GD because then we can also eat whatever we want - especially during pregnancy when we need all the calories we can get. And yes, exercise can help your numbers go down.

yes it helps. there were a few times when i checked my numbers two hours after and they would be around 150 so i would walk in place for about 5-10 minutes and my numbers would drop to about 110-120.
i was on glyburide to control them also.
