Can I mix....

Howdy...

Does anyone know if Pulmicort can safely be mixed with albuterol?

Can hypertonic saline (7%) be mixed with albuterol?

I know it may be a stupid question, but I'm wondering if anyone's doctor has told them its safe to mix anything with albuterol... I'm trying to minimize the number of nebs I have to use... seems I'm always washing and boiling and waiting for parts to dry, and I'm plum exhausted by all the washing and waiting....

Thanks in advance.

So did the DR. say it was okay to mix Pulmicort and Albuterol or do you just do it??? Now I'm excited!!! one less neb to do!

I just did it. I "figured" since they were for my airway openings to be better it was no big deal. I know there is controversy about mixing anything among people tho. Saline I wouldnt mix. I would do pure albeuterol before the saline!

Definite no no with mixing the hypertonic salene with anything.

But I know the feeling of hoping to do less meds... it's a PAIN!

Pulmicort and albuterol...i'd ask your doc.

I actually usually mix albuterol and atrovent, so adding pulmicort to it would make 3. Hmmmm.... maybe I'll check with dr.

Thanks.

Just a FYI albuterol can be mixed with nearly anything, I don't think it reacts badly with anything. Same can't be said for pulmozyme.

I've mixed OO, albuterol, and collistin all at the same time. I've also mixed GSH and collistin at the same time also.

Just cuz you've mixed it certainly doesn't mean that you have dimished the efficacy of the drugs.

I'm certainly more on the conservative side but really meds shouldn't be mixed without checking with a PharmD at your clinic or the doc.

Sonia,

I haven't seen a study showing whether or not you can mix them. My guess is that chemically it probably wouldn't matter. But...depending on your doses it is probably to much liquid for your nebulizer kit anyway. Most neb kits can old effectively "hold" 5 cc's. HS itself can be 5cc's and throw 3cc's of albuterol and you have just decreased the efficacy of your neb. Your treatments will be longer and your particle size larger.

Since you are getting "moisture" with your HS maybe your doc would "let" you do an inhalter for your albuterol and just cut out one neb.

have a nice day. If you have mire questions feel free to PM me

Well yeah, but nothing exploded either. And I felt just fine like I did my regular regimen, as opposed to say missing my normal course of aresols. I would only mix albuterol as the "can mix with anything" fluid. Aside from that as a given, I have no idea. The more complex the substance, the more likely it will be to have problems with other substances upon mixing.

Mixing certain meds can make one of the medications less effective. I know you can not mix pulmozyme or tobi with anything. I don't know about anything else.

how do you define a "complex" medication?</end quote></div>

Inherantly known to be more sensitive to degradation in the presence of other chemical substances, certain substances with a more dual complex role than other substances with a more singular role, substances comprised of more than one component vs others that are comprised of one component....?

Complex might not have been the best wording, but that is what I was thinking (above). Of course, those aren't universal laws either. Some base substances have violent reactions just to simple H2O. But then again i'm not a chemist/chemical engineer (though my dad was heh), I just play one when I want to blow things up.

Abby's doctor told us we could neb albuterol and pulmicort together. Wish the same were true with some of the others.

I've been mixing my hypertonic saline with the albuterol. I figured it was okay since I always had to dilute the albuterol with 0.9% saline anyway. What is the reason this shouldn't be done?

Okay, I'm going to show my stupidity here, but, why mix meds? If it takes 10 minutes to neb med A, and 10 minutes to neb med B wouldn't it take 10 minutes to neb AB? Unless the question is, can you use the same neb for different meds (without washing the neb first). Someone enlighten an idiot.

My daughter is only on albuterol & pulmozyme at the moment and I know you can't "mix" those. But when more get added I'd like to know of some time-saving tricks.

If you mix anything with anything, wouldn't miss up the medicine on how well it would work for you. Like say you mix albuterol with something else than that something else might not have a good effect on you, might not work as good. Hope this all makes since. but I wouldn't think that mixing stuff together would be such a great idea

What we're been told... Don't mix anything with pulmozyme. Have a pulmozyme-only neb cup for use with it. Don't mix anything with Tobi. Mixing albuterol, atrovent, and mucomyst (with his dosages it's 5 mLs, which is under the max for the pari lc plus) is ok.

SeanD - *ChemE love* Mmmmm, reactions.
