Catching MAC from your shower head

I agree with Sally. As much as I want to live as long as I can, I also want to be able to just LIVE while I'm here. I try my hardest to keep things clean, and I stay away from the obvious risks...but I just have to live my life too and not stress about the shower head in my own house or playing in the dirt now and then. Ya know?

Joe Falkenham is the one who helped us figure out the mycobacteria the boys had two years ago. Good man.

My husband talked to him a bunch of times on the phone. He did all of our environmental testing (water and soil). We did not have dangerous levels of myco in our household water, but it DID freak us out.

We sent him samples of water from every tap in the house, schools and hospital. We sent dirt from every yard my kids play in, cranberry bog sand pit and our friend's farm. The farm was the one that had the highest counts, but we're still not sure if that is where THE myco came from.

Scary!

LOL - I'm not losing sleep over my showerheads.
I agree, cooties invade our lives everywhere whether we like it or not.

I firmly believe knowledge is power. If there is a source in my own home that I can either avoid or change, I will. I certainly don't worry myself sick over it but I try to be careful.

Trust me Sally, if you ever had a killer bug like MAC, like I did that was Hell bent on killing me, you'd want to know your source. I lost most of my left lung because of MAC through surgery and I certainly cannot afford physically, to lose any more lung.

I'm naturally higher risk for reinfection, so you betcha I'm going to eliminate any sources that I hear about.

Isn't it a relief to know where it possible came from? Now your boys know to stay away. I'm so happy they are still MAC free . . . every month means lower risk for reinfection.

In my case, I'm pretty darn sure mine came from our back yard jacuzzi. Terry and i used to gel in it 4-5 evenings a week after work for about 2 years prior to my dx. It's the highest risk activity I was involved with at the time, so that's my best guess.
