Cayston Finger Slicing Club

Oh I hate those tops - besides getting somebody else to open them, I've ended up using my teeth - not ideal.

The only other thing I've figured out is to carry a staple remover with me - that tends to work pretty well when nothing else does!!

Let me start by saying for me Cayston has been great, thank G-d. I've been on it for over five years. Back then the vials were much harder to open. A good portion of the time a pair of pliers was required. There were quite a few complaints and chances were made.

My current technique, which works quite well for me, is to pull the tab back and fold it all the way down to tear the ring open before pulling it off.

I am a "former" finger slicer. ;-) Now every single time I open the metal top I get a cloth and use that to grab the metal part. 99% of the time it works perfectly, it also gives you a good grip so the metal piece is less likely to break off. Shelly 43 I know exactly what you mean about trying to use a knife or a scissor. It is really dangerous to open that thing up! I can't believe they packaged it that way. i guess they never practiced opening the bottle...........

I agree with Stephen that it's not quite as bad as before when there was a plastic cap attached to the metal part. If that came off, which was common, it was nearly impossible to open the vial with your fingers. I had to keep a pair of needle-nosed pliers nearby.

Oh I've done that so many times!!! I've started using the end of my shirt to open it

Yup, count me in! I love Cayston, but man do those tops stink. I'm on about my 5th round of Cayston and the darn thing still got me! You'd think I would have learned by now. Sliced the end of my thumb just right and it hurt for days!

And yes, I've used my teeth, a fork, and a corn cob sticker to get the metal to separate when it doesn't open down the perforation line the first time. Yikes.

Haha...Glad (sort of) to see I'm not the only one in the club! Shelly43: FINGERNAIL CLIPPERS! For those times when the little metal tab breaks off and the vial still isn't quite opened I keep a pair of (clean-brand new) fingernail clippers in drawer of the desk I do my meds at. It works fabulous to get the rest of that sucker open. Anomie: That really depends on the person and whether or not your daughters bacteria is resistant to one of the meds. I was on Tobi for about 13 years and became resistant. So at the end Tobi started just feeling sticky in my lungs and I always felt worse on those months. Tobi was nice because it was twice a day (as opposed to three times), BUT it also took WAY longer than Cayston. I prefer Cayston...finger slicing and all!

Oh, yes, I'm a member of the club, too. After I'd had enough of bloody thumbs, I use a paper towel to open it. So far, so good. But since this drug has done so much to pick me up off the floor, I'll gladly suffer a dozen paper cuts!

Funny missgunky.

Count me in too. Actually I haven't cut myself in a while. When I first started Cayston there was a thread going on here about cutting our fingers and I called Foundation Care and told them about the packaging problem and that there were lots of people who were getting cut. She told me they would report it (I believed her) but who knows if that actually happened.
