CF and Military Wives

Hi!

I'm an Air Force wife and have been for 6 years... My DH joined right after we married. He is probably going for his first deployment to the desert in January.

It would be really cool if all us military folk could set up a chat time... I'd LOVE to "pick the brains" of others and what they think of the military system when dealing with CF, etc...

I am a member of EFMP, but was always told that it has no bearing whatsoever on deployment as my husband will still have to carry out his duty to his country. However, it does factor largely on where we're stationed (i.e. must have an accredited CF center, etc.). According to my EFMP rep a few years ago, being in the program doesn't do much else other than make sure there are appropriate services for you where you get stationed. Have others heard differently?? I also have been told it varies by branch what the EFMP program will/won't do.

Anyway, glad to "meet" everyone!

I am an AF wife and have a son with CF. He is in EFMP and I have also been told that it makes no difference when it comes to deployments. Basically just what Sonia said--it really only matters when it comes to getting an assignment.

Hi, my husband was in the Air Force he got out in 1997. We were in the EFMP program. I don't know how much it has changed, but we tried to get my husband out of going to Korea for a year on hardship, and that's how they decided that he was not world wide qualified, so they pretty much told him he could get out or do his tour and then be made to get out when he got back. So unless things have changed be very careful how you try to go about things, because if not you could wind up in the same situation that we were faced with. He did get out on an Honorable Discharge though. So if you want to stay in the military, be careful how you handle things.
