My idea is that you start treating your son like an adult and trusting his judgement.

Pets provide something no medication in the world can - happiness and exercise.</end quote></div>

And that is the Gospel of SevenStars. May it be recorded in history and repeated whenever it applies.

That said - we have three dogs, and *gasp* the lab sleeps on our bed with us. We wouldn't have it any other way.

Seriously though randames22, I couldn't agree more with sevenstars.

I'm sure you have worked very hard all of your son's life to keep him healthy, and you are just worried, but you must let go here, and let your son live his own life. Even if that life includes a dog. That dog will love your son unconditionally, and he will be by his side no matter what!

If dogs were filthy, and disease ridden, they wouldn't be used to help handicapped individuals live more independent lives. Going to the doctor's office or the grocery store puts your son at a higher risk than owning an animal.

I like my animals more than I like most people, and they have provided my son with so much love and companionship. I can't imagine our life without them.

Please try not to worry so much. It really will be okay.

I have to agree with several prior posters about this being your son's decision to make if the dog is his. If my parents had tried to tell me to get rid of a beloved pet, I would have resented the heck out of it.

So often our pets can help us in ways no person ever can. For me, my dogs are a huge part of my "family." They can bring a smile when nothing else can. I can't imagine ever willingly parting with mine.

We have to sacrifice so much to this dang disease which are beyond our control as it is.
