CF Clinic visits

Liza,
Chapel Hill is great! If she ends up going to UNCW, she would be about two hours from Duke (in Durham) and about two and a half hours from UNC (in Chapel Hill). I don't know anything about the Duke clinic, so I can't say anthing about that, but UNC has one of the best CF clinics in the entire country. There is also a lot of CF research that happens at UNC. I think that the doctors, both pediatric and adult, are fantastic, and very knowledgable, so I would definitely reccommend that she go there if she ends up at UNCW (or anywhere in NC!).

allie- who does your daughter see? i grew up seeing dr.henry, but i think i know most of the docs over there.

My daughter's doctor is Dr Leigh. She was only diagnosed 4 months ago so that's the only one we have seen so far. She is great! Have you ever seen her? I talked to Dr Saito on the phone once and he seemed very nice.

allie- actually i don't know dr. leigh or dr. saito! maybe more has changed in the last 3 years than i thought!!!
i'm glad you are happy with them though!!! don't you just love the new children's hospital??? i guess you weren't there for the old one, but let me tell you, it was quite ghetto, lol. the adult clinic is over at the acc building (behind the parking deck), which is nice b/c it's easier to get to and the lines for blood drawing and x-rays are a lot shorter!

the only thing I don't like about UNC is the parking....but that's a small price to pay for such a great clinic. i didn't realize the children's hospital was new. when did they build it? i'm glad we never had to go to the ghetto one

who was your favorite doctor when you went? where do you live? we live in Durham but UNC is the same distance as Duke from our house.

thanks!!!! Amy

i actually live durham too, but just barely. i'm right over the durham/chapel hill line b/c i'm a senior at UNC (which is quite convenient)! i grew up in charlotte, though, and that's where my family still lives. marianna henry was my doctor from ages 2-19, and she is really great. my mom always really loved her too. does sally still do pft's?

Allie has never done PFTs at UNC.......they say she is too young to get an accurate reading. She had one at Duke when she was diagnosed and the lady doing the PFTs was a smoker..........that's one of the many reasons we switched to UNC. How do you like going to school at UNC? My brother is applying to go there next yr.......I hope he gets in. He's a senior in High School in Greensboro.

We live near the new Southpoint Mall. It's a small world.......it's nice chatting with someone who lives near us. Thanks.

i can't believe they had a smoker working in the cf clinic!!!! that is just crazy. i get so mad when i see anyone smoking at the hospital. actually i get pretty mad when i see anyone smoking anywhere . that makes since that she's too young to do pft's if she was just recently diagnosed. how old is she? i know my mom and dad had a lot of concerns when i was first diagnosed. it's great that you're on the boards so you can see so many cfer's that are doing really well at older ages, but if you ever have any questions or concerns, feel free to e-mail me and i'll do my best to answer.

i LOVE going to school at UNC, i'm going to miss it terribly. the only people i've met that didn't love it were people that didn't like big campuses in general. i love the diversity and different choices that come with a big campus though. plus it is sooo pretty and chapel hill is a ver fun college town. it's even better now that southpoint is there with a nice movie theater and great shopping!

We love Chapel Hill too...it's such a beautiful town. Unfortunately, it's so expensive to buy a house there. That's why we live in Durham

I would love to get your email address so we can chat. I do ahve lots of questions but I promise I won't bombard you with them. Maybe one per email???

I am so anti-smoking too. I always was before but now I have an extra good reason to be. Not only did the PFT lady smoke but she was mean too. Did you know the Cats Cradle is now a smoke free club? Cool, huh?

My email address is amyplymale@earthlink.net if you just want to email me your address. Thanks so much. It really does help me cope to talk with people that know what my daughter and my family are going through. She just turned 3 a couple of weeks ago. How old are you?
