I have heard a number of CFers compare their disease to drowning...including myself. I don't think they necessarily mean it in the literal sense (i.e. lung fill with water, drowning in a pool kind of way). Instead, I think of it as a metaphorical comparison. Drowning is relatively slow, and it's progressive. It means you slowly lose control of your ability to breath because you are continuously swallowing water. I think a lot of people with late or end sage CF would tell you they feel like they are drowning with no way to escape the water. It's an interesting way to get the point across, and I think it's a way many people can relate to. Lots of people are scared of drowning, or scared of their kids drowning, and they know it means suffocation. Comparing CF to drowning may not be entirely accurate, but I think it's both powerful and "true" in the sense that it captures the way a lot of CFers feel. Just my two cents.

If you listen to major league baseball on the radio, everytime someone hits a double, they mention Cystic Fibrosis. Waste managements donates money to CF for every double hit. Of course the men in my household only listen to the White Sox so I am not sure if it is all team or just double hit for the White Sox
