CF Culture Results

Preliminary results are usually in in 72 hours. If something shows up, depending on what it is it can take a while to grow out, it took over six weeks for my MAC to culture out totally.. and less then that for the Mycobacteria Fortuium to grow, It took four months for the sensitivities to come back.. Insane.

I am learning more and more the difference between centers and believe me there is a difference.

We have an accredditted CF center here in town, about 8 miles from home; however, a number of us go out of state to CF centers about 250+ miles away since the CF center in town is IMO lacking in terms of being proactive, sometimes they're not even reactive.

We stopped attending the CF Center in town a few years ago due to several issues; however, DS' pediatrician in town is the head of the CF center. So for normal well child visits, vaccinations, labs, we go to the main peds clinic. I don't consider him to be DS' CF doctor, but a pediatrician with knowledge of CF. DS' CF doctor is 250 miles away in the City.

Got it. Interesting in that the Dr that I see at the CF Center is extremely reactive and the CF Researcher Gastro Dr that I see (at a different hospital) is pro-active. It is very frustrating at times.
