CF movie

I was on ebay earlier and I came across a movie about a man with CF. It's called Sick: The Life and Death of Bob Flanagan, Supermasochist. It sounds pretty interesting and a bit "unconventional". Has anyone heard or seen it?

I've heard of it, I he was a very strange guy though. He was, as the title claims, a 'supermasochist'. I think part of his "art" was physically hurting and torturing himself. I wonder if the movie has parts about CF in it too, not just about his masochism

Oh and it's from 1997. Here's the imdb page on it:

How gross? I have a pretty strong stomach, but I do have my limits. He sounded like an amazing man that was self-confident, in tune with his body and was lucky enough to find someone to share his lifestlye with and deeply love each other.

Well I was able to handle all of it. Certainly there's gross CF stuff, but that's clinical and therefore, most people can handle it easier. Some of the sexual things are hard for some people to view. Let me see about how delicately I can put this... He nails his penis to a wooden board, then takes the nail out, and (if I remember right) it bleeds right onto the camera lens. I think that's probably the worst scene in the movie, so if you think you can handle that, you're good to go.

There's one scene that was harder for me to watch, but not because it was grotesque. It was just very graphic. He died while they were filming, right in front of the camera, so you got to see him die of the CF. He looked like a fish out of water while he was trying to breathe.

But I think it's well worthwhile to see. My mom bought it for me, and I loved it. I love any books or movies about CFers, but especially if they're true stories.

I have seen some pretty strange things happen to a man's "member", in books and documentaries; but nailing your penis to a board is the most extreme. I would cringe, but not vomit. The hard part would be watching him suffer and die. I have laid in bed many nights not able to fall asleep because I can't get the image of my son dying in front of me out of my head, even though he is doing wonderful and very much alive. It terrifies me. I have a morbid curiousity and tend to watch things that I know will haunt me, it's stupid but I'm the kind of person who can't be blissfully ignorant. I will probably go buy the DVD and watch it alone, get upset, get pissed, have a breakdown, listen to depressing music, get over it and then go love and appreciate my son even more. It's a ridiculous and painful cycle but it's just the way I am.

Ahhhh I'm the same way!!! I cry at every CF movie I see or book I read. And I know I will. But at the same time, I am drawn to them. I must see or read them. When I watched Bob die, I couldn't peel my eyes away from the TV. Mike went to the bathroom, and I rewound the DVD to watch him die again. It does seem very weird, morbid, and terrible, but I don't think we're the only ones.

Emily,

I was reading your post about what "sick" was about and I find myself being very distrurbed about the prospect of watching someone die from CF. I have seen hundreds of people dying/die throughout my hospital career so it isn't anything new. I guess is the idea of watching someone actually die from Cf is a little close to home. I think I will pass on this one.

but if you like troubling movies...have you ever seen Jude?
