My son is being diagnosed with cfrd. i want to know what to expect? They think it is related to him being an a milk drip but is so can we take him off the milk and see what the glucose numbers are. I really just hate for him to have to start injections.

Please help any ideas would be great.

I am a first time user my son will turn 14 this month and was diagnosed at 6 months.<img src="i/expressions/brokenheart.gif" border="0">

More than likely they will start him on insulin. The needles has for his insulin pen is really tiny, the hardest part is finding him a portion of fat on him to pinch to put the needle. The blood testing is pretty easy, just a finger poke and a drop of blood. However Dan does not like the finger poke, so he tests on the heal of his hand, he says in hurts less.

He will feel better once his sugars are in control and his body will be able to fight infection better.

Another possible option is oral meds if medication will be needed. The difficult thing with the oral is that you dont have flexability to adjust like you do with insulin shots.

I had tried Prandon (oral med) & had too many low sugars (crashes). I have been using the Novalog Pen which is a god send.

Most doctors dont recommend limiting a CFers diet to control sugars. We need the calories!

Its overwhelming at first, but like so much with CF before long its part of the routine....
