CFers over 40

I am 57 and was diagnosed at 26, which was considered an old diagnosis back then. I'm amazed at the much later diagnoses here! I have one Df508 and another less common gene. My FEV! is about 60%, which is a big drop from 4 years ago. I went to college and had a great career for 25 years. I've been on disability since 2007. I also have lupus and many joint issues with extreme fatigue.
We are an exclusive club and I'm amazed at the age spans represented here. Thanks for asking this question!

Thank you so much for starting this thread. I often feel like the "aLone Ranger" down here in New Orleans. I dont hear of too many over 40 CFers, and I was feeling down about it lately and then came across all of your posts!! Thank you all for sharing, it is just what the doctor ordered, lol.

I was diagnosed at 33, now 41yrs. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 11 years and we adopted 4 amazing children (all siblings) 9 years ago, they are now 13, 14, 15 and 17.</end quote>

Wow, God Bless you & your husband for adopting 4 children .. What a gift you have given to them & I'm sure you have received from them ! <3 joni

I was diagnosed at age 54 by an allergist. I am now 63. I was always sick as a child, but they didn't know what caused it. The doctors told my mom that I had weak lungs (good guess) I had polyps and had over 20 surgeries on my nose & sinuses over the years. I had many allergies, so the doctors thought. Surgeries were done in the USA, Canada & Switzerland. When I was younger they probably didn't look for it because kids just died. My dad was in the military, and they just gave you a shot of pennacillin anytime. Probably saved my life. As I grew older, I had seen so many doctors, they probably all thought someone else had ruled it out. I am working full time, and on a maintenance dose of antibiotics for the last 12 years. PFT are @ 65 and have been since I was diagnosed. I am very lucky!
