Thanks for all the replies. You all inspire me. Do any of you work full time? Do any of you have disability? My husband works full time, but he is considering applying for disability. Not sure if he will be approved since he doesn't miss much work, but the job is getting harder for him.

I am on disability...I am still a RN though, I always renew my license every 2 years. I figure I worked very hard to get that piece of paper, there is no way I am going to let it lapse even though I can't realistically practice right now due to my lungs getting infected so frequently now. I have other issues besides CF that makes things tough at times, my diaphragm does not function very well, that alone is a major wrench in my breathing, coupled with CF, well you can just imagine how any respiratory illness can become very serious. I became disabled in 2002, before my CF dx....I literally went from working full time to having to go on O2 full time and told to stop. I know of people on this board who have gotten disability while still working unless I am mistaken. They met the criteria for disability for their CF diagnosis. I am sure they will chime in..

Ironic, I believe I'm in better over-all health than I was pre-trans yet now I'm on disability!
I worked as a truck driver; a job I loved, for 23 years until I got too sick to work.
Towrads the end I couldn't walk from the cab of my truck to the front axle of my trailer to open the tailgate & dump the airbags. (I drove an end-dump, a semi trailer that stands up in the air, a very large dump truck). Unfortunately, the anti-rejection drugs turned me diabetic. You can't be insulin dependent & drive a semi for a living.
For some dumb reason people are a tad paranoid about someone losing consienceness while driving a semi; I never qite figured that one out...
It's been 4 years now & I'm just starting to figure out ways to ebjoy 'retirement'.
I still hate it though & would give anything to go back to driving.

I was 12 at the time of diag. now 63. FEV1 31. Worked for 35 yrs.. Took med. disability to better take care of CF this was in 2004, some 7yrs. ago. Dr. suggested more intense neb. rx and exercise program, which was hard to do working 40+hrs. and being on call. Had no problem getting on disability. Good luck to all!!-<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> One of the best things I have ever done for myself, medical retirement. God is Good!!

I was recently in Club Med and was told by a nurse that there was, recently, a CF patient there who was in his 90's.
