Neither of my kids have any lung damage yet - based on their x-rays, CT scans, lack of culturing bugs, and normal PFT's. They both have some narrowing of the small airways but I have asked and just like bonniebaby says it probably a result of asthma or perhaps mucus, but the doctors don't refer to this as damage. I specifically asked if my daughter had any damage after her one bout with PA and I was told no. The doctor said he even had to argue with the radiologist as to whether or not she should have the dx of CF because her CT looked so normal.

So I think it is possible - just not very common, and as stated above "yet" may be the key word here. We count ourselves among the lucky and they both are very compliant with all their treatments..... so far so good

Within the last year I went to the emergency room because I was having trouble breathing. They did a lung xray: normal... and I believe they did blood oxygen: normal. I saw a pulmonologist 3 times in the last two years. Told him about the lifelong wierd lung issues and the frequent, intense infections and pluerisy a few years ago. He had me do an involved breathing test with a machine (PFT I guess?). When I saw him recently he gave me the results of the breathing test: excellent, normal and he was really surprised when I told him about the other doctor accidently finding and getting positive tests for CF. The CF clinic I'm seeing mentioned doing a lung CT which is more accurate. It seems so crazy to me that I've been feeling lung wierdness my whole life - the doctors stethoscopes, xrays and tests all say my lungs are normal. Turns out I was right and the tests completely missed it. What good are these tests?! I mean am I missing something? Is there something majorly wrong with the system or what?

have u had a genetic test? the #1 step is getting diagnosed.

as with any health issue, sometimes you have to be persistent. docs are not gods and therefore do not do things perfectly 100% of the time.

if something is up, and you feel it, do'nt give up until you figure out what's causing it.
