CFRD in toddlers

Does anyone out there have a toddler with CFRD? My dd had a blood test (which was normal) and is sched for a urine analysis (if I can EVER get her to pee in the cup!) to test--she drinks ALL the time and is constantly asking for more to drink and urinates ALL the time!! We're working on potty training and I just can't keep up (and I don't think she can either). Every 10-15 minutes is the norm for her, daily (she's 2 1/2). Also, her diapers the last couple of days have been on the dark side and with how much she drinks, I can't imagine that she's dehydrated. At any rate, I've discussed with our dr, but her weight gain has been good and there don't seem to be any other symptoms so I guess we just need to get her urinalysis done asap. Just looking to see if anyone else has a young child with CFRD who can shed some personal light . . .
Thanks and Happy New Year!

I don't have a child with CFRD, but I do have it myself, and though I can't help much, I thought I would throw this out there...

Has she had the glucose tolerance test (the 3 hour)? Or did they just do the random blood draw to check the numbers? Are they checking her kidneys, to make sure everything is okay there? Make sure they do liver numbers too, just to be on the safe side (dark urine can also be a sign of a liver problem). I am not trying to scare you, but they might as well be checking everything, if it's not the blood sugar causing it. Please let us know how it goes, and good luck with the cup thing .

Oh, you might be able to get one of those collection pans that fit under the rim of the commode, under the seat, from your hospital/dr's office, or a medical supply store. If it has to be a "clean catch", you could put the cup down in the pan, and hope for the best .

I agree with what AnD said about checking the kidneys and the liver.

Also I'm just gonna throw this out there - for a period of about 4 months I would have bet a million dollars that our daughter (age 4) had CFRD; her only symptom was really just the frequent urination. Did a random blood sugar test, then a fasting one. Both came back in the normal range.

She also did have two UTI's during that time frame; one a "common" one, and one more unusual bacteria that took several days to grow out (can't remember what it was).

We also traced the frequent urination (possibly) to sugary drinks (kool-aid, fruit juices) and cut those out.

Between clearing up the back-to-back UTI's and cutting out sugary drinks her symptoms have gone away. Good luck!

Just wanted to add that it may be nothing. Little kids pee like that, a little bit often, they're not good at holding it in and letting the bladder fill up. That's what we're working on right now with potty training my son. He'll use the potty but he doesn't pee a lot, and sure enough has to go again within a half an hour. It's good to be sure though! Hopefully it's nothing. Good luck with getting her to pee in a cup
