How old is your son? Has anyone ever mentioned autistic characteristics to you?

It could just be he is just a picky eater, end of story, but I mention it because you said he uses the term "dirty food" -- this is a common theme seen in autistics and their view of food.

I hope not to offend you, and in the interest of awareness and early diagnosis and treatment..... if there are any other signs that go along with this you might want to consider checking into autism spectrum stuff.

My son is on the autism spectrum... too high functioning to be "high functioning autistic" ... had delayed speech when he was younger, so he's not "asperger's syndrome" either... but he does have developmental delay and some autistic characteristics... one very common sign is food choices (restrictions) -- many kids have issues with the color and texture of food, not to mention the size, shape, what it has touched or if it has "spots" on it or might be "contaminated".

Anyway -- just a thought that crossed my mind :)

Congrats on the new food choices ! I'm still thrilled when my son (at 21 years old)chooses something new too !!!!!

He's 4. I'm pretty sure it's in reference to things with sauce on them. Who knows where kids come up with some of their ideas. And the dirty food comments happened earlier this summer for several weeks. I should probably just forget he even used to say that, for fear he brings up the topic again. He overheard me once say a medication looked gross and the first couple times gave me fits over it. Thank goodness I've made sure he hasn't been around to hear my negative comments about aqua adeks. Bleah!

It's funny how the food "rules" are different with CF'ers. Maggie went into the pantry at 7 am today, pulled out a bag of beef jerky and started munching on it. After she ate the rest of the bag of beef jerky she asked for pretzels. Can someone say salt craving! Mind you she ate this all before breakfast.

I wouldn't eat gravy for YEARS because one of my cousins said it was gross when I was about 4 or 5. Its funny what kids do. When me and DH have kids I'll probably have to get a shock collar for him because he is picky and I wouldn't want it passed on to them. If he even thinks the word gross I'll zap him!
