My daughter Kayla has always giving us alittle trouble taking her enzymes,
Lately almost everytime we give them to her she gags so much she usely
vomits and doesn't want to finish the bottle. We tried giving her a bottle without her enzymes and she drank it right down . I know we can't keep doing that so what do we do? I have read alot about powder enzymes on here but her doc. really don't want to give her them, he says powder enzymes can give her sores in her mouth.
She is having trouble gainning weight and they put her on ngtube , the little crap pulled it out a couple of nights ago , they showed us how to put it back in but we just couldn't do it. We called her doc. he said it was alright as long as shes drinking some so she don't dehydrate she has an appointment today to check her weight.
Has any one gone through this ?

It sounds like ya'll are going through so much, I'm thinking about you. I do know when Ellie was on the viokase, it gave her a really bad diaper rash and so we kept trying with the creon. Ellie did go through several weeks of choking and vomiting on her enzymes. After she threw up we waited about 30 minutes before we tried again, just to let her tummy settle. She still occasionally chokes on enzymes. I found mixing a little bit of rice cereal with her formula instead of water helped. I also make it thin so it's just a little bit thicker than the consistency of her bottle, that way it's not actually too hard to swallow. Trust me, she still chokes on her enzymes, medicines, etc. We just fight our way through it

I wish I could be better help. I can kind of understand about the feeding tube. Ellie doesn't have a feeding tube, but she does have a broviac line where she gets her home IVs and she is constantly trying to pull it out. They can be such toots

What type of enzymes is she on? When DS first started he had pancreacarb and they were teeny tiny little beads, almost like sand. He hated applesauce, so we used baby bananas, which were stickier and I seem to recall we actually were able to load the enzymes into an oral syringe with some baby food 'cuz the beads were so tiny.

Then we switched to pancrease MT4s and they were bigger beads, so we had to use a spoon or tongue depresser with the bananas. Sometimes we'd start with the bottle and then wrestle it from him, quickly stick in the enzymes followed by bottle to wash them down.

I'm sorry you guys are going through so much with this. I never went through it with Jordan, because he was PS, and of course, we didn't know about the CF until his teens.

I hope someone comes along and sets me straight on this, but I'm just wondering, can you put the enzymes in the feeding tube? It seems that I've read about others who do this during night feedings? I just don't know for sure, but it seems that they would end up in the same place whether they go in throug the mouth or in the tube.

I'm thinking of you, and I hope you guys get past this hurdle soon.
