Christmas trees and mold

We have always used a fake tree because I don't want to have to buy a new one each year & have to take care of it but I wouldn't suggest to get a fake one if you normally get a real one....CF takes too much away from life already---why let it take the Christmas past times away also.

Emily and Bobbi,
I agree with you. If this were last year and I had run across this article I would not be batting an eyelash about the tree. And yes, we are going to go ahead and get our tree this year and by 5:00 tonight my house will smell like wonderful pine! I am not a parent who avoids houseplants, etc. It's just that a Christmas tree is so huge that the idea of the mold being so present when we are just coming out of an exacerbation got me thinking. (This all started when I heard something on the radio about it yesterday.)

Anyway, just wondering what others thought about it. Sounds similar..yes, it's something to think about, but not an experience worth taking away!

We get a real tree every year. My girls look forward to the first Sunday after Thanksgiving, our Christmas Tree Day<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I love the way my home smells during the holidays, but they are a lot of work!
Kayla is allergic to molds, but she hasn't seem to have a problem with the trees in the past. Of course, she doesn't play or touch the water. And...Heaven knows I am the only person in the house that knows how to water the tree! LOL! I guess if she started having issues, then I would think twice, but for now we just continue to enjoy the tradition.

Hmmmm this is something to consider -- I never thought about it before. I'm glad to see the article, although it was very limited (only studied one tree - one house) it is still something to keep in mind.

For years now we didn't get a real tree because of limited space (only had a little 2 foot fake tree) but this year I have a bigger house so I went out and bought a nice big real tree -- it's still out in the garage because I don't like to have a tree set up inside for more than about 10-14 days anyway so I guess I'll keep an eye on my son, turn up the air purifier and get take down the tree (or not set it up as soon) so that it's not in here too much more than the 7 days or whatever it said -- doesn't bother me, as like I said I don't like to have any tree fake or real sitting around too long anyway.

Thanks for the info -- I think it's good to know, in case a person starts to have increased symptoms during the holiday season.
