coffee pot question

So I was thinking about getting one of those coffee pots that just make the single serving. Keurig. But they store the water on the side. I have a 16 year old with cf and I know that standing water can grow bacteria but I was wondering how fast? Between us we drink alot of tea, coffee, and hot cocoa and these pots seem perfect for us and we would probably go through the water pretty fast. I don't know if this is a silly question we have just never come across this before.

I know this is just my opinion but here goes: Almost all coffee pots have a water reservoir so I imagine this concern would extend to any coffee maker if you are going to get realllllllllly extreme in your concerns over PA. However, something important to remember: the concern over things with water reservoirs are when the water is then going to be dispensed into the air and breathed in (i.e. humidifiers.) Water in a coffee pot is going to be consumed. I would think there is a difference there. She already drinks PA every day in her water, bathes in it, etc.

I would not worry about this. I'd keep the coffee pot clean, but not because of concerns over PA... but just because you should to extend the life of it (mineral deposits will build up in the reservoir with constant use.)

We have a Keurig. The side slides in and out so you just fill it with water on the morning you use it. Each day the water reservoir gets dumped out, cleaned, dried, and ready for the next use. It never sits all day with water in it.

Maybe some people let the water sit there between uses, but that seems pretty gross to me, CF or no CF!

Wow, I have had a Tassimo coffee brewer for about 3 years now, I leave water in the resevoir for use all day long. I never thought of this as a gross thing to do.

I agree that digesting and inhaling are what I should have been thinking about. I guess somethimes you think and worry about something so much you tend not to see the obvious. Thank you for the responses. I think I will go ahead and get one and quit worrying about it!

I have a Keurig. LOVE IT! ours is a smaller model. we add water only just before using. one cup at a time, so I never had to worry about the water resevoir.

Interesting question. I would imagine the same question could be posed for coffee from any vending machine???

I don't think that's gross either to put water in it for several uses (I assume that's another single-use pot?) and then dump it out later on in the day. It would be gross to chronically leave water in it all day, all night, without ever cleaning it... I assume that's what most people would think as well.
