Call your clinic. For the most part, we've been told absolutely no OTC cold medicines for Sean. However, if he's really suffering (especially not sleeping/eating) our clinic has recommended a few OTC's based on his symptoms at the time.

Hope she feels better soon.

Colds are generally caused by virii. Killing the virii has been the best approach we have found to coping with a cold. Olive leaf extract, vitamin A and vitamin E are some of the natural antivirals I use when faced with a cold. I have also found that keeping my acidity under control makes me less likely to catch a cold in the first place. When I do get exposed to something (often at work), it helps to leave all our shoes by the front door in order to avoid tracking stuff into the house, and to shower as soon as I get home after a known exposure. Then I irrigate my sinuses, drink a little diet tonic water and take some supplements. I can usually clear up a cold within 12 hours of getting home from work.

We were also told not to use any cold remedies. I'd asked once because I'd hoped a decongestant might help with DS nasty nose boogies.

Instead we used the Johnson's vapor bath, simply saline (aerosol saline). Now that DS is older, we've started doing sinus rinses, which really seem to help. Increase CPT...

What exactly is simply saline? Is it OTC and is it an actual nose spray? We've never done a spray before so I'm wondering how well the kids tolerate it.

We got lucky this time b/c her cold is already gone and there was never a cough. Whew!

I panic everytime she comes down with a cold. Luckily, she doesn't get them very often.

thanks to everyone for your advice <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
