Colistin Mixing Trick

Hi everybody,

I am also on colistin regularly. I agree that it causes SOB and tastes terrible. I have gotten used to the taste over time, and manage the SOB with inhalers as others have mentioned.

As for mixing it, I have an IV bag with saline solution hanging in my room (hidden behind a curtain) with Iv tubing connected to it. I open the tops of the vials and drip a few drops into each vial, and then close them and give them one very light shake. By the time I'm done nebbing the other stuff the colistin has dissolved. Sometimes it does fome up while nebbing, but I haven't found a way to prevent that.

In addition to being easier, the Iv bag and tubing is cheaper than the little vials of saline.
