I lived in a dorm with 1 roommate - I bought a ton of nebs to last me a week, and I took them to a dishwasher at the end of the week to sterilize. This was back in the late 90's, very early 2000's. sterilizing nebs 10 years ago wasn't talked about as much and I wasn't as concerned as I should have been.

If I had to do it over again, I'd use a baby bottle sterilizer or get an apartment type set up where I could use a small countertop dishwasher exclusively for sterilizing nebs <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=9854464

Other than that, having roommates is smart for a CFer I think. For the most part people are generally pretty understanding and considerate. And CFer's can't live in a bubble - dealing with the general public is important. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

i would recommend a single as well. i lived in apartment style, so i could still hang out with my roommates, but when i needed to do my nebs i could just go in my room.

i had a roommate in the dorms for 3 of my 5 years of college and wouldn't go back and change it for anything. i honestly totally did not take care of myself my freshman year. pretty much never did anything even though i had my vest and nebs and all that there of course. paid for that big time. my freshman year i lived in a room with a roommate that i did not know before college (but ended up being one of my closest friends and still is) and our room was connected to the room next to us by a bathroom. we had a microfridge so i used the microwave to boil my nebs but again, i wasn't all that compliant and so it didn't happen very often.

if your daughter isn't shy or afraid to share her cf with people around here i HIGHLY recommend having a roomate. i agree with amy that it's good for us not to live in a bubble and it's fun! at least for me it was....

i would contact your daughter's college and find out what services they have for students with disabilities...i did not do this until my 2nd senior year and i wish that i had done it SO much sooner. they are wonderful and were so helpful for me. I would see what options they can give her for housing--see if there are suites or on-campus apts with kitchens that she could get into? we had those at my school...mostly upperclassmen but occasionally some freshman would luck out and get them....then she could boil her nebs easily.

i also have a baby bottle sterilizer (i think it's the AventQ24) that is a countertop, plug into the wall kind of deal and it works great so that could be an option too. i didn't have it in college but it would have been helpful and maybe helped me be more compliant.

College was a long time ago for me but we did request and get a single room. I did it cause there was NO WAY I was going to have a roomate and worry about her getting sick! So the single provided the privacy for all treatments, getting my sleep etc. I did not do nebs at the time but I would imagine you can rinse them out in the sink in the community bathroom and maybe they have something out there that boils water where they can be put in to disinfect once a week. Good luck! College was great!!!!
