CF and college. Always fun.

I used my experience with CF for my essay which turned out great. It definitely is a unique situation so I would say use that to your advantage. I also used it for housing. I had singles Freshman, Sophmore and Junior year. Junior year I lived in the sorority house and a single was very coveted so that worked out well for me. Then senior year I was healthy but had an off campus apartment at that point anyways.

I very rarely used CF as an excuse to not do work. I asked for one extension all through college and it was after my sinus surgery. They peirced the lining between my sinus cavity and eye cavity and I couldn't see out of my right eye. That makes it difficult to write a 20 page paper.

The way I looked at it is, there were going to be times that I was too tired to go to class, regardless of CF (AKA a fun night out). I addressed my health issues with my professors before every semester and always kept on top of or ahead of my work load. I didn't want to fall behind.

I did get pretty sick in college twice and had to get special permission to move in with my grandparents for a week and another time to drop a bunch of classes due to a severe infection (had a PICC put in and had to rest a lot).

I was on the list of "disabled students" not only because of my CF but I have a learning disability. The center that helped me with my learning disability helped me apply for Voc Rehab. They paid for some of my tuition and books-- lowered my need work ($$$). They said my CF played a part in getting me the scholarship.

College was hard-- the studying, the physical educationg classes, ingnorant teacher and finding the energy to work between classes and study time. I was so glad to be done-- considered quiting several times but I wanted that degree pretty bad.

I tended to lean more on my personal/professional/academic accomplishments to get me into undergrad and grad school.

CF wasn't hidden, but it wasn't a focus either.

For highly ranked, competive programs (both grad and undergrad), they won't admit you just based on having a genetic disease. There has to be more to your story....
