Commercial!

Ok, I really do get where you're coming from but seriously, its cold/flu season and every other person you run across has one or the other, so understand that that is who the commercial is directed at and move on. I hate it when people give me dirty looks when I cough too but I don't fly off the handle over it.

I don't want anyone here to think I went on a rampage. lol I may be prone to anger and rampages, but this topic lasted about this long:

TV: When you cough, everyone around you suffers.
Me: Mother-******!!!!!!
*turn to my friend*
.....Want to go out to eat later?

It didn't last long. I just saw the ad again right before I posted this and it reminded me. I was curious if anyone else had seen it and had been bothered by what it said.

I figured a little light "rarrr at the world" thread could be useful about now, given all the garbage going on around here. *shrug* <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Em, I am so glad I wasn't the only one who was "offended" by that commercial. I saw that a while ago, after someone had posted about the coughing thing and being in public--I got pissed too. Thank you for putting this in words. I even said something out loud too! I'm so glad you brought this up, as I sat in my living room and wondered if anyone here had seen it. This is what this site has done for me--I see the world from a different perspective now--the CF perspective!

its funny how people look at things differently-
My family seems to think that they can be around me and cough and its ok-they just can't kiss me. Whatever. I guess they don't realize that just standing next to me and hacking can get me sick.

Anyhoo-when I saw that commercial I thought-Thank you!! See, its gross to be in a closed space with someone coughing next to you. Obviously that rules us cfers out b/c our cough isn't going to spread to anyone else! So when applies to us, that commerical sucks, yeah I see how you'd feel that way. But when I'm next to someone (who obviously does't have an asthma or cf cough) its like, get the h*ll away from me. You shoud be home not spreading your germs.

perfectly put! how can you blaim people from not wanting to catch something from a person who is coughing?

this whole world isn't about people with CF, you know..... sometimes i feel like we forget that on this board.

there are things called viruses, non-nosocomial bacterial lung infections, etc that healthy people pass to one another.

we all need to get over people getting worried about our coughs for pete's sake. you're going to cough until you have a transplant or until you die, so get used to the fact that people are going to get worried about your cough. get over yourself.

anyway, something like that wouldnt bother me. if someone else had the cough i had i would be running as fast as i could from them. its natural. i just tell them im not contagious. if they carry on after that, thats when i get angry.

yeah, i was offended by that commercial too... talk about putting more pressure on us to stifle our coughs during cold and flu season to make OTHER people feel better! urgh....

I also do agree that for the general public it is maybe a good thing to show how coughers (without cf or asthma) should not cough on others and maybe could stay home if they are coughing that bad. Although, its hard to tell who is coughing cause they SHOULD be or who is coughing cause they're sick. I guess I'd err on the side that hopefully the commercial reminds others who don't have CF not to cough in my direction and make ME sick. LOL

Either way, I hear what you're saying and I also was offended that now this just makes a point of saying you shouldn't cough in public. Urgh.
