Compressor/Nebulizer Question - Not again Update

I changed out all DS' pari neb cups this past week as he was starting a course of Tobi. And I noticed that the treatment times increased significantly. We use a Devilbiss Pulmoaid that's only about a year old.

Usually the Duoneb (Albuterol & Atrovent) takes about 12 minutes and the tobi takes 20-23. The Duoneb increased to about 20 minutes and tobi 35-40. I mentioned it to DH this morning -- wondering if it's the new neb cups or the compressor. If it's the compressor, I was thinking about purchasing a new one for travel since the Pari Proneb Ultra has always, always been really slow. The Devilbiss is under warranty, so they'll have to send it in and I want to make sure we have a back up. Anyway -- DH thinks it HAS to be the compressor, since it'd be odd that all 3 pari neb cups would increase treatment times.

Any suggestions?

I've always used the Pari neb cups for all DS's meds 'cuz we can boil them and it's an approved cup & compressor for Tobi/Pulmozyme.

Maybe it's just a coincidence that about the time I change out all the nebs, that the treatment times increase. I HAD noticed it was starting to be noisy again -- A year ago I replaced this one -- still under warranty 'cuz it sounded like a helicopter. It's covered under warranty, but I'll have to drop it off at the medical supply company and have them take a look at it, THEN they'll have to mail it to California for a replacement or repairs -- last time the replacement took two weeks.

Just kinda annoying that the darn things don't seem to last longer than a year. We do have a spare devilbiss that was DH's cousin's an it'd 14 years old and still runs like a top. I don't want to have to RENT one, so I'd prefer to have a back up. I have been thinking about replacing the Pari Proneb that we use for travel and just got an email from an online medical supply company I've purchased items from in the past and there was a good price for a Proneb II, but I've heard mixed reviews on that, too. But I'd rather travel with the Pari than the Devilbiss -- it's not exactly compact.

It sounds like TOBI might not be getting cleaned fully from the nebs.

Remember if you get a new compressor, avoid the PARI Trek for TOBI purposes.

Also, the eFlow is an option if portability and time savings and getting meds deeper into the lungs is a priority for you.

I actually had problems with my compressor last night. I ended up changing the tubing and it worked fine. I either lost track of time since the last change or it just needed it earlier. BUT just a thought to consider since I also checked the filters, used different neb cup etc.

I agree with the poster who suggested checking the <b>filter</b> on the compressor itself. They need to be changed every 6 months-1 year and will effect performance. Hope that helps.

I checked the filter and I changed out the tubing when I changed the neb cups. We use separate neb cups for the tobi, pulmozyme and duoneb. All 3 had increased treatment times. I wash and boil the cups after each use.

Strange thing is that last evening, treatment times were back to normal. Didn't do anything differently than I had since changing the cups & tubing out last Wednesday. Could it be... Gremlins?!!! <img src="i/expressions/devil.gif" border="0">
