Katy still has a pot belly, but it has subsided somewhat (we are 10 months into our diganosis). I do have a few thoughts - is Ainsley on an acid blocker (to help the enzymes work more effectively) and have you considered a probiotic like Culturelle? We just started Culturelle for Katy, in the interest of helping her have good gut flora.

If you really wanna talk poop, Katy's changes a lot too. They are mostly formed now that she is on Creon and Prevacid, but boy they can still be really strange! I swear I'm AFRAID every single time I peer into the toilet. What's going to be in there this time? <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif" border="0"> Ah, the joys of mommy-hood.

I hate the inexact science of the enzyme dosing when you've got a kid that will pick at some meals (after you've given the "meal" dose of enzymes) and then eat like a pig other times.

hi my daughter is 18 mnths and has always had a thin body and big belly. she is always constipated and her poop is always one extreme to another she will have days were she poops all the time and i feel like i've spent the whole day changing diapers, then there r days when she has 4 good mushy poops recently her poop became formed and some were like clay she wasn't straining so i thought oh good maybe her poops r finally being normal then we went 2 the gi dr since shes had rectal prolapse in the past they do alot of stomach xrays and it ended up that she was full of poop. it is so frustating i don't really know yet what is a normal poop going to look like for her. she has been on miralax since she was 9 mnths old i have to play w/ the dosage alot i really don't want her to have to be on it but even when she takes it she gets contipated i can't imagine her not taking it, i often wonder will the big belly go away, its flat in the morning and just gets bigger w/ her 1st meal hope things get better, gosh i never thought i'd type the word poop so many times in 1 paragragh (lol)

My son usually has pretty formed, normal looking poop, once a day, sometimes twice, and he still has that belly. Sometimes it's looser than others, just like mine or anyone elses. I mean, occasionally even mine floats (sorry if TMI!) But if it's consistently loose, super messy, greasy, more than a couple times a day, then Vinny's doctors will tell us to try upping the enzymes. I can't always pin down what causes it either, he eats the same foods pretty much over and over. We did add zantac to help the enzymes work better, and it does help a lot. We actually went down an enzyme when we added the zantac.

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>They did a bowel x-ray and saw that she had no blockages but was pretty full of stool. The doc was gonna put her on something for constipation, but I didn't think she needed it since is actually rather loose alot of times, which is my main concern. </end quote></div>

I've heard that loose stools can also sort of be caused by constipation, as only the loose stuff can get by the rest that's clogging up the colon. Maybe just a few days of something for constipation will help, a little clean out of sorts.

Just tell the doctors just what you told us. It's not greasy. Sometimes it's normal, formed stools. Sometimes it's loose or runny. Sometimes it's the big messy one we can't figure out.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one confused about poop issues. It just seems to change from day to day. Sometimes she's straining to get it out and sometimes, she's running to the bathroom 3 times a day. I find it frustrating because I can't figure out if she's getting enough enzymes (she's on the highest dosage for her age) or if she needs to have something help her poop. She's such a sweetheart because she never complains about it, she's just used to it.
I really hope she grows out of the big belly stage, as she gets older I worry it's going to be an issue of insecurity. Maybe as she gets older she'll be able to tell me what excactly is going on in her little body and we will be able to regulate better.
