I also think its easy for you to say its crazy when you are not the employer that is at risk because of those people who might deem themselves as recreational druggies instead of addicts. Our local Walmart (who does drug testing for the initial hire...not sure about random testing afterwards) has a high rate of drug users as employees.

They also are at a higher rate for theft etc because most of the drug using employees are addicted enough that their rational thinking went bye bye.

Yes there are functioning, basically logical thinking people who use drugs, BUT sadly that can change so quickly that to try and assure minimal risk is by testing prior so you have an idea (if nothing else) have who has at least tried drugs.
</end quote></div>

See, that annoys me. If you want to test for coke or heroin or any of that crap, by all means. But what the hell harm is someone doing if all they do is a little pot now and then? I hate that I have to watch that for piss testing. What I do in recreation with MY time is none of their business, even if it is illegal. As long as I'm not high on the job, it's not their concern. Do they check everyone to see if they hire strippers or gamble illegally in their free time? No? Sure, it's harder to check for, but you get my point. I think it's stupid that marijuana is illegal at all (especially when alcohol is legal), but that's a whole different story.

i think that most people don't realize that the only drug that is caught by employer pee tests is pot. pot is not water soluble and stays in the body for at least two weeks for one who recreationally uses it. those that use it frequently may need 6-8 weeks of non-use to pass a urinalysis.

the much more addictive mind altering substances like meth, opium, and cocaine are indetectable in the urine after three days for a heavy user. a one timer may be able to pass in as little as 36 hours. these are the people who are at risk for lapses in judgement likely to result in criminal activity.

so, pre-employment piss testing is only really successful at keeping potheads at bay. even the most addicted meth-heads are able to clean up ther act long enough to clear the 3 days necessary to get a job.

pot-heads, however, must consider their habits long before the need to get a job arises. and i'm sure that these aren't the people that employers are really trying to protect themselves from.

I have plenty of bad habits...luckily they are all legal. I love being all jacked up. Sugar and caffine times 10. I would inject the stuff into my PICC line if I could. If I didn't have CF and stimulates were legal I would be in big trouble. I also love to get drunk every once and a while. Normally it is on my birthday which is New Years Eve and I have double the reason to party. I also love to enjoy a glass or bottle of wine.
