My niece was diagnosed at birth 5 years ago and was put on Mineral Oil daily after she had 2 bouts with Rectal Prolaps.... 1/4 to t/2 teaspoon. Now she is on Miralax and still doesn't have a problem going. She gets a little crampy before she "goes" but then it all works out. Ask your doctor about Mineral Oil.

Awhh, poor little guy. Ben seems to go the other way when we are off...loose ones that is.

Psyllium fiber (husks and seeds in a powder form to add to a little juice) may be an easy addition to keep thing moving. Do a google search to read about it. It doesn't place strain on the bowels or damage them long term. I use it from time to time and it is really gentle. You could also add a bit of olive oil in with it.

Your son may not be old enough, but I actually find the ABI Vest helps a lot with gastro issues. Every day after using the vest I have to use the bathroom. I've also used it when I had bad cramps and it relieved them.

Just a quick update. Danny's CF nurse called back last Fri and wanted him on miralax and milk of mag. I started it on Sun and so far he has gone every day since then. yesterday they started to get a bit runny so I stopped the milk of mag. He has an appointment on the first so they will address the issue more then.

I know what a vicious cycle constipation can cause. My daughter, around 2, started withholding stool. We had problems with her for a good year and a half. we had her at so many drs and each one said there was nothing phsically wrong with her. The only option we were really given was to give her mineral oil which worked but after a while her hair started falling out. I read more about it and found that mineral oil basically strips the body of all nutrients. we stopped that and I will never use it again. we also tried psyllium seed with her, but that didn't work. I was thinking of looking into that for danny though. At about 3 and a half she just decided that she was going to start going regularly and she has been fine ever since! Who knows!

Toddlers....arghhhh!!! They do some weird stuff. Ben is doing this blinking thing and it is driving me batty.

I'm not sure but I think the pysillium powder is a good daily maintenence program especially if your kids won't eat lots of high fiber foods like greens and other whole grains. I also believe flax seeds in a little soy/milk yogurt can help in keeping guts healthy and moving. Plus you can add a probiotic in the mix which can help balance things out.

There are foods which are constipating among them refined foods (white flour, white sugar), dairy and animal proteins. Watching how much of these are in the diet and adding higher fiber foods along with them can help.

Prune Jiuce, Prune Juice, Prune Juice.

This has been the best possible way to keeping Olivia regular. I give it to her at the first sign of constipation and within a few hrs her poop is back to normal.

It tastes good, is healthy and is a natural alternative for constipation.

Tip: keep the little bottles of prune juice in your cupboard at all times, and they are great for travelling and on the go too.

Hope this helps.
