Constipation

I have a question about CF related constipation in people who are pancreas sufficient. My son's only symptom is chronic constipation, but the CF doctor and the pediatric gastroenterologist didn't seem to think it was caused by the CF. They didn't perform any tests however, so I'm wondering how they could dismiss this so easily. He has a follow up appointment this coming week and I'd like to go back armed with a little more knowledge on the subject. Are there specific characteristics when the constipation is caused by CF? And does anyone know WHY CF would cause constipation in the first place? Thanks!
This has been talked over here a few times..
My dayghter had the same problem. We ended up with alot of drinking and taking prebiotics pr symbiotics as you like - probiotics with substances that also help grow natural flora in intestance. We also cut bananas, white flour , white rice and other foods that cause this - like for healthy people also.
This a typical problem for cf-er's due to taking in too much water in the intestance. - Someone here explained it to me in better words - sorry for my english
For the first couple of weeks we gave Asia Lactulosum (not much at all - a teaspoon as I remeber - I still ceep it in case we need it ) and then (when all went back to normal) remembered about the prebiotics and alot of drinking and the problem didn't come back.
Asia is also Pancreas sufficient.
Cf doc told us it's typicall and should be dealt with as in normal healthy kids.

my dd also has this problem and she is also PS. As Aleksandra said the mucus in the intestin is also thick (as in the lungs), that is the reason. In our case the probiotics did nothing to help. We give forlax periodically, that seems to help. We also avoid bananas, rice etc.

I've searched this forum for more information but I can't find what I'm looking for. Maybe I'm not entering the right criteria. If cf related constipation is caused by excess mucus in the intestines, then I would see that in his stool, right? I don't see anything like that, so if that's the key, then maybe the doctors are right.

The muscus does not show like fat in poop - the problem is with absorbing too much water due to this muscus - that is why drinking is the key - however its hard to do with a kid- so we use prebiotics or fiber products and water... water...
