Coughing and

Ok this is kind of embarrassing to ask but have any of you other CFers had any problems with coughing and peeing? If you cough too much or too hard you pee a little? I have had this problem lately and its really not any fun. Nothing major like wetting my pants or anything, but still it is not fun. And I have also noticed that sometimes when I don't cough I still have that problem.

I'm 27 I don't want to have to wear depends! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

Anyone know how to get this to stop...or if that is possible?

yes, Amy, it happens to me and is common among women (men too?) with CF. There is something I learned about called "the knack". You can prepare for a cough by pulling up with the muscles of your pelvic floor (the ones you use if you want to stop peeing midstream).

amy,

first of all, don't feel bad asking this. i've had this problem for a long time and i'm pretty sure a lot of us cystics do. sometimes it is worse than others. but for me it only happens when i cough.

my friend gave me a tip that helped her with this and has helped me, too, when i can remember to do it! basically, you can do exercises to strengthen the muscle that controls urine flow. have you heard of Kegel exercises? this is similar except you are targeting a slightly different muscle group.

so, like when you're driving or whatever, just squeeze that area and release, over and over. i would do 3 sets of 10 at a time, but i just made that number up. like i said, it did help me. the hard part was remembering to do it.

good luck!
