Hi Mariah, I've posted on here before about bleeding. I had regular bleeds for the last 20 years, I've 5 embolization operations to stop it so they've ranged from really severe to just some streaks. I just had a little bleed the other night. Through research and trial and error I've discovered some things that help prevent and even stop the bleeding, and also that hemoptysis is not well studied and understood or treated by CF doctors. Putting me on antibiotics or steroids often doesn't help me, though it could help you. It's typically raw scar tissue breaking a leak where the arteries attach, at least for me. Streaking can be from that or from busting a small capillary.
So here's my tips, if bleeding is a common occurrence try:
vitamin K, namely mephyton And CF Source softgels, these have a little more vitamin K than the ADEK vitamins. They're in water soluble form so we absorb it faster. The vitamin K helps aid our bloods clotting ability.
Probiotics - I take capsules from Jarrows that equate to 10-billion cells. They're not cheap, but they're good for us for multiple reasons. Namely they actually help our body absorb the vitamin K.
I've noticed a delayed bleed several hours after being exposed to strong chlorine fumes, this could be from an indoor pool, bleach or a mop bucket in some bathroom. This was from trial and error. I don't think you're case is quite as severe, but if you start bleeding more try to notice what you've done or been exposed to that day.
To help stop a bleed in its tracks, this one will sound a little weird. But cayenne pepper powder. I had another CFer recommend this years ago, and I've had many occurrences where it worked like a miracle, stopping a bad bleed in 10 seconds. What I do is sprinkle about 1/8 tsp, or a dash, in some warm water and chug. I recommend the hot stuff you may find at a natural food store, but regular stuff should do fine at first. I got used to the spice pretty quickly. Supposedly this works by dilating the blood vessels in your body which in turn decreases the pressure of the blood coming into the lung.
That's about it I think. Let me know if you have any questions.
