Crazy doctor

I was wondering the same thing as Sakem, why can't you see another doctor at the same clinic? And that other doc seems like a pretty suspicious character to me anyhow; paranoia is NOT a desirable characteristic in a doctor, trust, I work for one like that.

OMG Katie, I can't believe it was Cooks. I find it strange that you can't see the other docs. They are a clinic but don't work like every other CF clinic we've gone to, as a collective practice. You only see one doctor, exclusively, unless it's urgent or you are admitted and your doctor is "off" or on vacation. That is one thing I found strange about the clinic. I don't even remember the names of the other doctors unless I look them up.

Have you checked into Dallas Children's? I think there are a couple of members here that go there. I saw a commercial today for the other place that was mentioned, Medical City Children's.

I hope you find a new clinic soon.

Liza, that is one reason I like Cook's is due to her only seeing 1 doctor. I thought that would be better for her to establish a life long relationship with 1 doctor. I think it's funny that the forum edited her name to Dr.X but I guess I understand. I'm not sure why we can't see the other doc's but that's what we were told. Dallas is the other one I know of that we went to for about a year that could not diagnose her but didn't do what was needed to .

Today I was told by an attorney at the cf hotline that it would just be best no matter how hard or how right we are to just apologize for whatever they feel we did that was so horrible and basically kiss their butts. Because cf doctors are so few, he says it best not to burn your bridges so they hopefully don't make us look bad going into the new clinic. That is what sucks so bad b/c we look like crazy people. We didn't do anythind wrong! And it only hurts Makailyn for them to do this. The only other thing they could say other than the 504 thing was that my mom would call up there and ask a lot of questions basically questioning what we were told by the doctor and finding out something totally different by other resourses. So, I guess she did not like that. But the lettter was sent the day after the 504 meeting so it has to be more b/c of that. The attorney also said that 504 set ups are usually done through the social worker, not the doctor, and since she had just came back from maternity leave and was sick that day, the form was sent straight to the doctor, and he said that was not the proper way. I didn't know any better. I was just doing what I was told. So, therefor, Sakem, even though the idea of a protest sounds great, based on the attorney's advice, I guess I will try the butt kissing first<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-frown.gif" border="0">

I looked up the doc you mentioned and I'd never heard of her. Actually there were a couple of doc on the team that must be new cause I hadn't heard of them. Then again they are starting up an adult clinic so maybe that's who the others are.

I don't know what a 504 is, we never had any of those things for our girls. I hear/see people talking about them but I really don't know what they are.

How is your relationship with the CF coordinators? I won't mention their names so they don't have to go back and delete them. Anything I've ever needed I usually go through them (almost put her name down). I hardly ever called the nurse because, well, it would take forever. But, he did get a new nurse in the last year, by then I was already just going through the CF coordinator.

We are used to seeing all the docs in the practice/group. One rationale behind it was so that the kids and parents would be used to seeing different docs when they were in the hospital or in for an urgent visit. Except for when we were in Germany, the Dutch (we went to a Dutch CF cli nic, not German) usually had you see just one doc. That was a first but OK cause we saw the head of the clinic. It could have been too because we were American and maybe they wanted to show the best care, I don't know. At three different clinic, in three different states it was all the same way and they met once a week to discuss all the patients so they'd all be up to speed and offer their opinions as well.

We liked Dr.H though. He was great. I don't know what I'd do in your situation but if you apologize, keep your mom from calling the clinic and maybe ask to switch doctors to get a clean start? Good luck with it all. If you get back in, use the CF coordinators. One of the main reasons we went back there after that one year (Anna was 4-5, Rachel was 1-2) was because we'd come home on Christmas vacation, it was our first year back from Germany, and we miss judged the amount of Pancrease we needed and ran out. Being military and getting their meds from the bas
e pharmacy you can't just transfer the script. We called them up, explained the situation (Anna was 14, Rachel 10) and they remembered us! Called in a script for us and asked how the girls were doing after all these years. When my husband retired from the AF and we came home, there was no doubt to where they'd go, back to the same Doc.

I hope you get back in and things get straightened out.
