Cruising with CF

....and 2 adults, a 5 yo, and a 1 yo baby??<br><br>We are bringing my parents on a mediterranean cruise for their 50th anniversary next year. We have a standard size cabin booked. So y'all know how big a vest is, plus hoses, plus nebs...will I be able to fit all this in the room? Would I be able to do my chest pt in the bathroom-from what I've heard, that might even be tricky.<br><br>Hubby and I are really well traveled. We've done some crazy trips all over the world, but this will be our first cruise. Figured its a good way for our parents and our 5 yo to see alot, but not have to move ten times. <br><br>The hotel/chest pt issue is always an annoying one, but I usually come up with a solution. The issue is, as some of you may have experienced-not waking the rest of the family while you have to get up 1.5 hours earlier than everyone else to do therapy. Make that a 5 yo and a 1 yo and oh boy...I do not want miserable meltdown kids woken up by moms vest in europe.<br><br>Anyway, I'm wondering what issues you cruisers-Parents of cfers, or cfers-have come across while cruising. <br><br>Not sure what to do to resolve this. Part of me feels like, we are spending so much on this to begin with, and above all trying to make this the most special time for my parents, we may as well book a suite or larger room type so we're all comfortable and well rested. (above all, I don't want to do all this and come home sick bc I'm exhausted) But, we're already paying so much...ugh.<br><br>

I've never cruised before, but have travelled with our child wcf and relatives. Usually ends up that DS decides to have sleep overs with his grandparents or auntie.

I have been on cruises before, when I was in college, spring break type thing. I have never been with my daughter with CF, however, I am very interested in what others will post who have as I know this is something we may want to do in the future..<br>I would try to contact the cruise line and ask them if they have a private room for you to do medical care in; so you do not disturb your family early in the morning. They usually do have a doctor or nurse or some sort of clinic on the cruise line for people with sea sickness etc, maybe they have ideas for space? <br>Make sure you have a converter for electricity for your VEST and nebs.

My wife and I went on a cruise about twelve years ago, before kids, and I remember the cabin and the bathroom being rather small for just the wife and I. We were in a standard room on the Carnival Cruise line. I only took my nebulizer and no vest. That's my memory of the room on our trip. Good luck to you.

I have been on several Alaska cruises, never took the vest or children, did take travel compressor and acapella. Did huff coughs. This worked fine for me. As stated in ealier post the cabins are small, baths are evern smaller. Good luck and have fun.

Just a question any way you could get someone to keep the children? Please do not take this the wrong way. You deserve a vacation!! You would have a lot more fun and not be worn out. Any way just asking.

Accapella doesn't seem to cut it for me and hubby goes into trip with the best of intentions, but I never get good chest pt. I like the independence and not worth getting sick. Stinks, but oh well.<br><br>

We took a cruise with a vest and neb last spring with daughter (in diagnostic limbo). The room was small and bathroom was really small. I do not think you have room in the bathroom to vest. I found the Disney line to be very accommodating (prior to vest use) but Carnival not helpful at all. I would call ahead and ask if you could use a room for your medical treatment. Also breakfast can be a lengthy process and room service is free so maybe your family can go to breakfast without you and you can order room service to eat after treaatments. Have a great time we chose the cruise because we could leave the medical equipment set up and still see a variety of locations on one trip.

I just told them that I need a separate area to do my treatments, where I'll have enough room to store my equipment and not wake the kids.<br>He put me on hold for about 30 mins, and then said if I want this room type, its mine <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> We now have within our cabin, a room with a bed for me and dh and ds, and a room for dd, and a separate living room where I can happily and quietly do my a.m treatment and the p.m one after the kids go to bed! WHOOO HOO<br>

I have been on 2 cruises with all the gear. The rooms are small, but It is only for a short time (week), so I didn't find it a big deal. It was just me and my wife though. One recommendation is to bring a power strip. The Carnival rooms I was in only had a single outlet, and if I remember correctly there was only a single receptacle, not the typical double.
