culture came back normal flora

Hi Heather - Jason just had a bronch the end of June. He started in April with adenovirus which we thought turned into a cf exacerbation. Long story short - after many chest xrays, pft's and on and off not feeling good not all matching up - the bronch revealed aspergillus(sp.) which had not been caught through sputum cultures. The bronch also revealed pinched off airways and an enormous amount of secretions. They get such a good look when they do the bronch. J finished 21 days of Tobramyacin and Cefapime along with oral bactrim and steroids. The oral bactrim and steroids are continued. They also added an oral antifungal.

I hope you get answers soon.

Oh and Jason's cough ended up being more reflux than the secretions. Prevacid did the trick for that.

MIL does not have CF. But, she spent a month on antibiotics for pnuemonia the first of this year and wasn't getting better. She finally demanded the doctor do a deep sputum culture. She cultured influenza. They had to switch her to Tamiflu before her pnuemonia got better.

It was a good reminder for me that there are a LOT of things that can be in the lungs, even things we don't normally think about.

It was a good reminder for me that there are a LOT of things that can be in the lungs, even things we don't normally think about.
