Sean,

PS what is your advice on "The Vest"? Do physio twice a day for my daughter at the moment, about 20 minutes each time, using a beanbag and tipping, etc.

I really like the vest, it does an awesome job for me. Some others don't care for it. I personally like the level of particular resistance you can do with the vest and breathing techniques (huffing)...No matter how i've felt in the past (bad or good), after the vest I always felt better. Even if I didn't cough much up, i'd always feel much better. The problem for me now is actually using the vest when I feel good, it's a hard thing to do.

The other benefit to my "good news" part of this, is that any and all joint related problems I had before are 100% gone, including my gout. That's one thing I can be happy for!

LOL! Where did you get your vest from, aren't that popular over here in the UK at moment cos of the expense? When my daughter had her annual review I mentioned it and her Consultant said that they cost around £15,000 (don't know what that is in dollars!)

I understand your disappointment. Honestly, I would be too. I think the way Risa saw the news is a good way to look at it. I will be finding out what I'm culturing in early April. I've always had PA as far as I can remember. It was probably elementary school when I 1st cultered it. Hopefully, we won't see any of those 2 bugs or I'm afraid we'd have to link it to P-73. Thoughts on this possibility?

I've been doing 1 capsule 3x strength oil of oregano in AM and 4 drops mycelized (water soluable) OO in DuoNeb (Albuterol) in AM nebulizer. I've gone back and forth about doing the OO neb. in the AM or the PM. My lungs are more productive in the AM so I thought I'd do it then. How does your doctor give you results of sputum culture? Did you have to go in or were they able to email or fax it to you? HIPAA is great and all but it has made it difficult to get my hands on my paperwork as easily.

I think I'll get the monolaurin now and the other oils to use with the facial sauna and 'Kick it up a notch!' as Emeril would say.

Did your doctor seem concerned about these additional bugs? - I think that's one important thing to consider.

Many of us do trade ins over here. Like I originally bought my first one (probably the first model) for about 30,000 bucks via insurance, because before that I had a nurse come out to my house 3 times a day, for many years. I guess they did the math and figured the vest would be MUCH cheaper in the long run. The vest company I have (www.thevest.com i think) lets you do trade ints for newer models. So instead of another 30,000 bucks for a new one or whatever, they let you swap your old one for the new one for say 6,000 bucks. The problem many people are having here is that the insurance company won't allow a swap from the second to newest model to the newest one that is smaller, digital, and much more friendly for traveling. If they look at it from a medical necessity viewpoint, portability isn't a medical necessity, so they usually say no.

No he wasn't concerned, so maybe i'm being concerned when I shouldnt be. My doctor is one of those that generally feels that unless something is a problem, don't treat it unnecessarily, and goes by a large part on how a patient feels, and their PFT's. He won't start handin out antibiotics just because we have bugs. I like that approach. I dont want to take prophalactic antibiotics now just to make me feel a little bit better, and then after a couple years on them I develope mean resistances towards those lines of antibiotics, and when I'm REAL sick and need them the most, they won't work.

I highly doubt the p-73 was responsible for the new bugs, due to how the oil is processed, and the microbial inhibition nature of the oil itself, and the two bugs I talked about are notorious for hospital based infections, and I was in the hospital, acting like I was in my room (picking my thumbs/teeth/gums with my hands, not being as good about what my toothbrush touches in there, etc etc), so who knows. Of course even if I believe something has really helped me, i'm not going to say it's 100% impossible that it didn't come from a supplement. Many supplements of all kinds have shown contamination in the past, so you gotta be careful where ya get it, and the background of the company. I do know the stuff has helped me tremendously, where conventional medicine couldnt, so i'm grateful for that.

BTW loulous, how are you feeling now, since you have been on the OO?

I appreciate now that my parents did pt on me (tilitng and clapping like you mention). I started the Vest when I went off to college -18 years old- I've been using it ever since - 2x per day- due to the independence it allows. I think the human touch is important but hard to prove medically beneficial. Let's just say I never had any question about my parents interest in keeping me well and looking out for me in large part to the large chunk of time that they dedicated to my pt. Maybe this even helped me be the dedicated person I am today to caring for myself?! I'd say get the Vest but don't elimate chest pt while she is young.
