Deaccessing a Port

Hey guys how much Heparin do you use before you deaccess the port. I am going to taking my needle out in the next few days and I am not sure what the procedure is.. How much saline first and then how much Heparin?

This probably won't help. I use 10ml of saline. I don't use heparin. Every port is different though. I have a groshong and I don't have to use heparin to flush mine.

Depends on how long the line is, what type, etc. Personally I use 10ml of saline followed by 10ml of heparin to be safe, but I've always had trouble with clotting. I access it to flush every month even if I don't have IVs to do, as well.

i do 10ml of saline and 5ml of heparin. and same as sevenstars i access it once a month and flush it even if i'm not doing IVs. i think thats what (with most ports) you're supposed to do to make sure there isn't a clot or anything-just general maintenance.
